E3 2019 – World First For LG: One Millisecond IPS Gaming Monitor Announcement
While E3 might be seen mostly as a software show with the occasional console hardware announcement, LG Electronics turned heads with the announcement of the newest in their UltraGear Nano monitors – featuring a stunning 1 millisecond IPS display.
Available in 27-inch (model 27GL850) and 38-inch (model 38GL950G) sizes, both feature an already fast 144Hz refresh rate (that can be overclocked to 175Hz on the 38-inch version), high screen resolution support (3840×1600 on the 38″, 2560×1440 on the 27″), and support for HDR (HDR10 on the 27″ and VESA DisplayHDR 400 on the 38″) as well as wide colour gamut – hitting 98 percent support for the professional film industry standard DCI-P3 color space.
Both units are NVIDIA G-SYNC compatible, and promise to provide smooth playback with reduced screen tear or stuttering even if the attached console or PC sees framerates drops. For those looking for a little more immersion, the 38″ version also includes Sphere Lighting 2.0, which uses RGB lights on the monitor’s rear to project lights on the wall that match the on-screen action. It’s a surprisingly effective addition to your setup, and one that more monitors should support in the future.
The 27″ model will be rolling out first, though both are expected to be released in Canada before the end of 2019. I’m hoping to be able to go hands on with one of these high-speed delights soon.
