NBA NOW Launches For Android And iOS
I have to admit, I was a little skeptical of the claims GAMEVIL made about their new mobile game, NBA NOW, in the press release that arrived in my email so I downloaded it and checked it out myself. Turns out it’s true – this really is a full-fledged NBA game that you can play with one hand.
When you have the ball the player automatically moves it up court and three icons appear at the bottom of the screen, representing driving the lane, passing the ball, or taking a shot. Press and hold on the icon and your player will do their best to make it happen.
There are some ‘advanced’ controls, for example on a shot you hold the button down until the gauge hits the yellow bar in the center for a 10% increase in shot chance, and while passing you can press and slide to choose a direction – but you can also just press it and let the AI decide where to move the ball.
NBA NOW is a little more casual focused, but that’s the audience they’re aiming for and I think they hit it. I haven’t put a whole lot of time into it, so I can’t speak to the microtransactions or timegates that seem to be built into it, but as a fun distraction for fans as the start of the NBA season looms? This looks like it’s worth a shot.
Here’s the press release:
