Review – Darksiders: Warmastered Edition
Darksiders: Warmastered Edition, a Kaiko-ported remaster of last gen’s excellent action-adventure game by Vigil Games, hit PC, PS4, and Xbox One this week. I have to admit I was prepared to be disappointed here, as my recollection of the game is fairly glowing, but this remaster is the real deal.
Visuals get a significant bump in resolution, with PS4 Pro/PC gamers getting the full 4K treatment while Xbox One and PS4 gamers are treated to 1080p at 60 frames per second. There’s also a noticeable improvement to the textures, as well as the ability to turn off the annoying chromatic aberration effect that plagued the original release.
None of that would mean anything if the game itself didn’t hold up, and I’m happy to note that it does. There’s a good variety of enemies and environments, the combat starts out fairly basic but ramps up quickly as you unlock new attacks and items, and there’s also quite a bit of challenge ahead if you choose to play on Apocalypse difficulty. All in all, this is still a solid offering that will captivate action-adventure fans.
