TPC River Highlands Course Revealed In PGA Tour 2K21

I’m incredibly curious to see PGA Tour 2K21, created by Nova Scotia development house HB Studios, and the wait is nearing an end with pre-orders now available and the reveals starting to ramp up.

Today they unveiled the first look at a licensed course, TPC River Highlands, a Connecticut course located in Cromwell that overlooks the Connecticut River. It’s a short course by PGA Tour standards, relying more on challenging approach shots than long fairways to give golfers fits. The course is home to one of the more exciting final layouts, with holes 15-17 circling a pond before hole 18 takes it back to the clubhouse – it’s the cap on a second half that’s far more interesting than the opening nine holes.

Here’s the course trailer, expect to see several more as we get closer to the August 21st release date.

You can pre-order PGA Tour 2K21 on PC, PS4 or Xbox One.

2K Announces Mafia: Trilogy

I think 2K’s Mafia series is one of the more under-appreciated series out there, but that might change with the announcement of Mafia: Trilogy, a remaking/remastering of the franchise’s three games. Mafia II: Definitive Edition and Mafia III: Definitive Edition are both available now with substantial upgrades, but it’s the ground-up remake of the original Mafia – slated for an August release – that really has my interest piqued.

The remake of the original is just that – a ground-up remake that sports an updated script, new cutscenes, and the somewhat nebulous “additional gameplay sequences and features” addition I’d love to hear more about. In the preview screenshots the visual upgrade is stunning, and I’m interested in seeing if the story polish is up to that level as well.

Here’s the press release:

WWE 2K20 MyCareer Features Branching Paths and Interdimensional Portals

WWE 2K20 is upping the ante with their MyCareer mode, bringing you not only the first ever dual character storyline and an estimated 20-hour campaign, but also interdimensional portals.
You can unlock WWE Legends, attires, some original characters and environments over the course of 18 chapters and about 100 matches – though with branching storylines it’s possible you may not see everything in one playthrough.
WWE 2K20 hit shelves October 22nd for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Pre-orders are available now.
Here’s the press release:

Male and Female MyPLAYERs Join Forces in WWE 2K20 MyCAREER

WWE 2K19’s MyCAREER upped the ante with a more narrative driven storyline and fully voiced cutscenes featuring WWE Superstars. WWE 2K20 takes all of that to the next level with a dual male and female MyPLAYER storyline offering a much longer intriguing experience.
IT ALL STARTS AT THE WWE HALL OF FAME
WWE 2K20’s MyCAREER tells the story of Red and Tre, two lifelong best friends who set out to fulfill their dreams together in WWE. This approximately 20-hour experience takes place in the near future on the day of Red and Tre’s WWE Hall of Fame induction. Through reminiscing with WWE Superstars and Legends and the stories they tell during their Hall of Fame speech, Red and Tre flashback to their high school years, first matches, struggles to work their way up on the indies, breaking into NXT, and finally the journey to the top of WWE as they attempt to achieve Hall of Fame-worthy careers.
MyCAREER AT A GLANCE

  • For the first time ever, create both a female and male MyPLAYER and take them through MyCAREER, playing storylines and matches as each character and occasionally teaming together with the all-new Mixed Tag match feature.
  • Unlock WWE Legends, Career specific Superstar attires, original characters and unique environments like “Hell’s Colosseum” and a special New Day themed arena.
  • At one point, Red and Tre cross through an interdimensional portal to try to find the Undertaker who hasn’t been seen in years, encountering various surprises along the way.
  • MyCAREER is fully voiced again, this year featuring performances from nearly over 40 WWE Superstars, NXT Superstars and legends in addition to over 15 original voiced roles. Interact with newly-voiced Superstars such as Ronda Rousey, The New Day, Becky Lynch, Adam Cole, Velveteen Dream, The IIconics, Samoa Joe and more.
  • Track Red and Tre’s career progress with “The List” – as teenagers Red and Tre write down all the goals they’d like to someday achieve, which later becomes their road map to success. Can you cross off their final list item and get inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame?
  • At certain points in MyCAREER, the decisions you make affect the matches Red and Tre compete in, who they team with, and possibly even lead to some alternate outcomes. Explore different choices to see what paths they might lead you down.
  • Podcasts are back this year, including “The Buzz and Cole Show” featuring the return of Buzz and Cole Quinn from WWE2K19’s MyCAREER.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • 18 chapters
  • Approximately 100 total matches
  • Over 2,700 lines of dialogue
  • Over 900 lines of new commentary unique to MyCAREER matches and cutscenes
  • Over 270 cutscenes
  • Around 20 hours of total play-through time
  • 34 career goals on Red and Tre’s List
  • 1 bionic arm

Online Lobbies and Daily Challenges Coming to WWE 2K20

Nothing brings me back to a game over and over like daily challenges – if they’re done right – so I’m really interested in seeing what WWE 2K20 does with their newly announced daily challenges. From the release it sounds like exactly what I want, a motivation to try something different from the modes I normally play.
Visual Concepts also delighted longtime WWE 2K fans with the return of online lobbies, helping you find exactly the match you want when you want to play them. And while the online stuff is great, and is hugely important for the long-term life of the game, I’m – admittedly very selfishly – more happy to hear that unlocks from MyCareer modes aren’t going to be locked to those modes!
WWE 2K20 releases October 22nd for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Here’s the press release:

Online Lobbies and Updates to Daily Challenges Announced for WWE 2K20

Play your way in the highly requested return of online lobbies, experience more MyPLAYER freedom and face new challenges daily
With the forthcoming launch of WWE 2K20, players will enjoy a suite of new online features designed to help streamline matches with friends and similarly-minded players alike, enhance customization and treat players to a variety of challenges rotating daily.
Check out the full list of upcoming online features added below:

Online Lobbies Return in WWE 2K20

The highly requested online lobby system is back in WWE 2K20. Lobbies will streamline the process of pairing up players and getting them into a match as quickly as possible. We’re also excited to talk about new developments in MyPLAYER, Road to Glory, and MyPLAYER Towers.

Create a Lobby

If you have an exact online multiplayer match in mind, creating a lobby is the way to go. Select from a wide variety of match types and rules with up to six players. Choose the arena, Superstar gender, and even toggle the restriction to only allow default WWE Superstars (a.k.a. Fair Play). You can start out in private mode to invite friends and then open the remaining slots to the general public if you prefer. Once in a lobby together, everyone can voice chat as they select Superstars and the lobby creator makes decisions on the match at hand. Players will now have full visibility on how the match is coming together.

Get in Quickly

If you’re less picky about what kind of match you want to play, you can browse currently available lobbies that only need one or two more participants and jump right in. Or use the search feature to filter by preference. Even easier, select Quick Play to be slotted into ready-to-go matches automatically.

MyPLAYER Evolution

As previously announced, both male and female MyPLAYERS are part of MyCAREER. This extends to Road to Glory and MyPLAYER Towers as well. You create both male and female MyPLAYERs with different styles (one can be a brawler and the other a high-flier, for example), experience pools, progression trees, and creation part unlocks. This consistent pair can level up and unlock items throughout all three of these modes.
For the first time ever, any special creation parts you unlock through playing MyCAREER, Road to Glory, and MyPLAYER Towers are also available in the general Create-a-Superstar mode. On top of that, you can export the appearance of your MyPLAYER out to the general character creations as well!
Road to Glory and MyPLAYER Tower fans will be familiar with the process of earning stars to enter special pay-per-view events. These Road to Glory events now include female matches for the first time, in addition to male matches.

Daily Refreshed Match Challenges

The new Tonight’s Match feature in Multiplayer places you in a new match every day that rotates through match types, rules, genders, and arenas to make it simple to constantly try something new.
The Road to Glory Featured Match of the day is similar to Tonight’s Match, but also includes potential Triple Threat, Fatal 4-Way, and 6-Man (or woman) matches. These will regularly toggle back and forth between male and female matches so both of your MyPLAYERs will get regular rotation.
Tonight’s Match, Road to Glory Featured Matches, and daily MyPLAYER Tower challenges (single player) will all incorporate elements from the new WWE 2K20 2K Originals post-launch downloadable content*, whether you’ve purchased them or not. For example, once the first package, WWE 2K20 Originals: Bump in the Night, releases, you may see matches taking place in the Wyatt Swamp Arena or Cemetery Brawl Arena. Or you might face FrankenStrowman one day in a MyPLAYER Tower daily challenge. You never know what kind of 2K Originals content might show up any given day for all players with online multiplayer access to enjoy.
*Additional purchase may be required

WWE 2K20 Shows Off First Entrance Video

WWE 2K20 dropped its first entrance video, and it’s of a slick-looking Samoa Joe as he heads to the ring. It’s been a fair few years since I last followed wrestling religiously, but I love to check in on the WWE 2K games as a way of keeping up so I love hearing that the roster is going to be as close to up to date as possible – including hairstyles/outfits.

With 2K Towers mode with Roman Reigns, a Women’s Evolution 2K Showcase, and a better MyCareer experience, this year’s content additions look pretty good, but we’ll have to see how it plays. I’m interested in seeing if the improvements on that side are keeping up with the content additions.

Borderlands 3: Guardian Rank, True Vault Hunter Mode, and Mayhem Mode Detailed

Borderlands 3 continues to pour on the information ahead of its September 13th release, with news on Guardian Rank, True Vault Hunter Mode, and Mayhem Mode.
Guardian Rank, like previous game’s Badass Rank system, allows you to earn rewards that apply to all your characters, but this time out they’ve tweaked it to also provide some big-league buffs alongside the smaller bonuses.
When your Guardian Rank bar (found atop your XP bar) fills, you unlock a Guardian Token that can be used to unlock bonus stats over three trees: Enforcer, Survivor, and Hunter. The bonus stats you can choose from are randomly selected, with two from each tree.
Here’s the pool of bonus stats:
Enforcer

  • Critical Damage
  • Grenade Damage
  • Gun Damage
  • Gun Fire Rate
  • Melee Damage
  • Vehicle Damage

Survivor

  • FFYL (Fight For Your Life) Duration
  • FFYL Movement Speed
  • Max Health
  • Shield Capacity
  • Shield Recharge Delay
  • Shield Recharge Rate

Hunter

  • Accuracy
  • Action Skill Cooldown
  • Luck (Rare Drop Rate)
  • Recoil Reduction
  • Reload Speed

I’m a huge fan of going big into Luck in games where that weights your drop rate chances, so it looks like I’ll be hoping for good rolls on the Hunter side of things…
In addition to those bonuses players can unlock Guardian Rewards, like weapon and character skins or passive buffs that provide big bonuses to your survival chances, by spending specific amounts of tokens: 10,15, 25, 35, 50, and 75. These buffs provide different bonuses depending on the skill tree you’re using, with the second tier providing Enforcer tree with a bonus to the Fight For Your Life status, where you get a second chance to recover from being downed by enemies, for Enforcer tree, which gets additional gun damage, and Survivor tree, which recovers with full health and shields. Hunter tree gets Bullet Collector buff, providing extra ammo from all ammo pickups.
True Vault Hunter Mode is the Pandoran version of New Game+ – a tougher challenge with better loot – while Mayhem Mode, which only becomes available after beating the campaign, offers up three enhanced difficulty levels that provides even more badass and Anointed enemies to defeat, but provides better cash rewards and the chance for Anointed gear…
Mayhem Mode also provides new mods to planets you’ll visit, which should force players to rethink their approach to combat.
Think Borderlands 3 already has enough content to last for a while? What about all the free content coming, plus the planned DLC?
Here’s the press release:

Catch All the New Borderlands 3 Endgame and Post-Launch Content Details Revealed during Today’s PAX West Panel

Borderlands 3’s story campaign is big – real big. Like, multiple planets big. But the game only gets bigger once you’ve finished the main missions. Borderlands 3 contains a wealth of endgame content and will enjoy consistent post-launch support; we’re thrilled to finally start sharing those details with you.
During the Gearbox Main Theater Show at PAX West earlier today, Gearbox provided new insights into Borderlands 3‘s endgame, including the return of True Vault Hunter Mode, an evolution of Borderlands 2’s Badass Rank mechanic called Guardian Rank, and the introduction of the all new gameplay-changing Mayhem Mode.
When you combine Mayhem Mode, True Vault Hunter Mode, and Guardian Rank progression with the highly replayable Proving Grounds and Circle of Slaughter arenas announced during GamescomBorderlands 3‘s endgame coalesces into an engaging loop that grows increasingly rewarding (and challenging) the more you play.
With all these avenues for endgame progression, there’s a wealth of challenging content to best and coveted rewards to chase as soon as you finish Borderlands 3’s story campaign. Below you’ll find a high-level overview of the new modes and features announced today, but for all the detailsplease refer to this blog.
Even if you somehow manage to conquer every challenge Borderlands 3 throws at you and max out every Vault Hunter class, there’s still plenty more Borderlands 3 content to come. From Seasonal Events to Takedowns to new missions and cosmetics – and of course, full-fledged Campaign DLC – here’s just a taste of what’s on the horizon this fall and winter:

As if that wasn’t enough, Gearbox also announced that Borderlands 2 VR on PlayStation 4 is getting the Bad Ass Mega Fun (BAMF) DLC pack for free on September 6, delivering a whopping 16 pieces of DLC content from Borderlands 2. And those of you hoping to experience Borderlands 2 VR on PC won’t have to wait long. Borderlands 2 VR is coming to PC in Fall 2019 and will include both the base game and all its DLC in one glorious bundle.
Borderlands 3 launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on September 13. For assets and additional information, please visit newsroom.2k.com.

GUARDIAN RANK
If you’re familiar with previous Borderlands‘ Badass Rank system, the basic idea is the same: you can unlock incremental stat improvements that apply to all your Vault Hunters. As you gain experience, you fill a special Guardian Rank XP bar. Every bar you fill unlocks a Guardian Token, which you can spend to unlock bonus stats across three distinct trees. The further you progress, the better the rewards available to you.
TRUE VAULT HUNTER MODE
This is Borderlands 3‘s take on New Game+. The enemies will be tougher and the loot will be better compared to your Normal mode conquests. Whether you select Normal or True Vault Hunter when starting up a new campaign, your character’s mission progress is unique to each playthrough. However, your Vault Hunters’ stats and equipment are shared across both modes.
MAYHEM MODE
After completing the campaign, you’ll activate a mysterious terminal aboard Sanctuary III that offers three Mayhem Mode difficulty levels. Enabling one of these Mayhem Modes ups the ante on risks and rewards across all worlds: enemies get increased health, shields, and armor, while you get bonus cash, Eridium, experience gains, and chances for better loot (including “Anointed” gear).
Mayhem Mode also applies a random selection of modifiers called Mayhem Mods to every planet you visit. For instance, you might get a Mayhem Mod like “You’re a Wizard,” which reduces the damage players do with normal bullets but increases their elemental damage.
