Control’s AWE Expansion Launches August 27th

Control was one of the best action games of last year and now, a year after it released, it will be receiving its final expansion pack. The expansion tasks new Bureau Director Jesse Faden with reclaiming the Investigations Sector of the Oldest House – the location the Bureau uses to investigate Altered World Events.

The new DLC starts at the end of the game’s campaign – you’ll need to finish it in order to start the AWE expansion up – and features Alan Wake, the star of a classic Remedy title that shares his name, as well as a heap of creepy imagery if the trailer is anything to go by. Expect to see a ton of gamers sharing screenshots when this releases, as they put the game’s built-in photomode to use.

Here’s the press release:

505 GAMES AND REMEDY ENTERTAINMENT SHINE LIGHT ON AWE EXPANSION FOR ACCLAIMED ACTION GAME OF THE YEAR* CONTROL IN DIZZYING NEW TRAILER

AWE will launch for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Thursday, August 27

CALABASAS, Calif. – August 6, 2020 –  Remedy Entertainment and publisher 505 Games will release AWE, the second and final expansion for the award-winning supernatural action-adventure game Control, on Thursday, August 27 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. A trailer for AWE premiered during Sony’s State of Play broadcast programming teasing fans with a thrilling first look at Jesse’s venture deeper into the Oldest House.

Players and fans can join Remedy Entertainment’s Creative Director Sam Lake and Control Game Director Mikael Kasurinen live on Twitch Thursday, August 13 at 9:00 a.m. PST where the two will offer an exclusive first look at the opening 15-minutes of AWE gameplay and explore the award-winning studio’s approach to storytelling, touching upon the “Remedy Connected Universe”. The stream will be hosted by Remedy’s community manager Vida Starčević. Follow Remedy on Twitch for live updates at www.twitch.tv/remedygames.

AWE will take Bureau Director Jesse Faden to the Investigations Sector of the Oldest House, where the Federal Bureau of Control closely examines Altered World Events (AWE) – happenings where paranatural forces breach our world with sometimes grave consequences. The expansion, which becomes available following the completion of the seventh main mission (“The Face of the Enemy”) in the campaign, will require players enter the Investigations Sector and confront the creature lurking within this long-abandoned part of the Bureau. To reclaim the Investigations Sector from its clutches, Jesse will need to explore the Altered World Events investigated here, including one from the town of Bright Falls where Jesse learns more about the disappearance of the writer Alan Wake.

Players who own the Digital Deluxe version of Control for PlayStation 4 and season pass holders on all platforms will automatically receive The AWE expansion on August 27. Players who own the base game for PC, PlayStation 4 or Xbox One can purchase the expansion season pass for $24.99, providing access to the previously released expansion immediately, The Foundation, along with AWE when it releases on August 27. Pre-orders are available now, with the game releasing April 30th.
With the ability to customize exactly how long you want each adventure to take, Book of Demons is perfect for Switch owners who want to play in between other tasks. Like I said in the review – put this book on your ‘must read’ list.

  • 40 cards with magical and legendary variants per character class
  • Three underground realms and epic Quest Boss battles

Review: Journey to the Savage Planet

Journey to the Savage Planet is a smaller game – running about 6-7 hours if you don’t do a lot of exploring, but expanding out over the 10 hour mark if you like to wander and goof around – but it’s packed with more than enough content to make it worth the price of admission.

As one of the new members of the Kindred Aerospace (the 4th best interstellar exploration company) Pioneer Program, you’re dropped unceremoniously onto a new planet with the goal of exploring it to see if it’s suitable as humanity’s new home.

With the budget having been spent on getting you there, unfortunately you’ve got little in the way of equipment to explore and no fuel to get back, but with the help of a 3D printer and a plucky computer assistant I’m sure you’ll be fine. As bad as the initial planning was, it goes off the rails even more when you land on an ‘uninhabited’ world that’s clearly been inhabited at some point – and perhaps still is…

Journey to the Savage Planet is a lot of fun, with a clearly comedic bent that’s probably not for everyone, but if you’re a fan of Monty Python you’ll probably ‘get’ this too. The videos from home are hilariously weird, and exploring the planet, unlocking and upgrading your equipment as you go, is a blast. While it’s not the longest game out there, at under $34 Canadian, you can do a lot worse for your money.

What I loved:

  • great progression system
  • snappy writing that hits the comedic mark more often than it misses
  • wonderfully weird world and creatures
  • long enough to feel worth it, but doesn’t overstay its welcome

What I didn’t like:

  • commercials that play in the rover repeat quickly
  • would have loved to see even more progression options

Here’s the opening 10 minutes of the game:

Journey to the Savage Planet is available January 28th on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Game reviewed on Xbox One X using code provided by the publisher.

505 Games Published 'Total Tank Simulator' Hits Steam In 2020

The hilariously-named dev studio Noobz From Poland will be teaming with 505 Games to release Total Tank Simulator on Steam in 2020. The physics-based battle game is a whole lot more than just tanks, however, with infantry, artillery, and airplanes to contend with as well.
The vibrant colours and simple models make this one stand out from the crowd, but I’d expect the massive armies and minute-to-minute gameplay will what keeps your attention. This might have historical battlefields and weapons, but it’s a far cry from a historical simulation.
Here’s the press release:

'Death Stranding' Hits PC in Summer, 2020

Now I’m not yet sold on Hideo Kojima’s newest project, Death Stranding, with the gameplay shown so far leaving me somewhat cold – but that doesn’t mean there aren’t millions of gamers who want to try it out, which makes news of it coming to PC a pretty big positive in terms of audience size.
Now we don’t much about the port, what the PC spec requirements will be, or even a firm date – but we know you won’t have to wait all that long with ‘summer 2020’ as the target.
The great news is that a PC port virtually assures there’s going to be all kinds of super weird ‘Thomas the Train’ or ‘Baby Shark’ mods available for it…
Here’s the press release:

Photo Mode Update Added to Remedy's 'Control'

Very few games have grabbed me like Control, earning a 4.5/5 and ‘must-play’ status, and it’s a game I’ve gone back to after reviewing it enough to hit 1,000/1,000 on the Achievement list…but there was something missing. Photo Mode!
Fortunately, though not for my free time, that’s been added today in a free update.
The mode freezes time and gives the player control over options like aperture, focus distance, and field of view to set up the exact shot they want, or simply select from a group of filters to see if you can get something cool looking that way.
I’ll be firing it up to check out Photo Mode tonight, and I’ll update this with shots from my experiments but for now here’s some provided to us:

FREE PHOTO MODE UPDATE FOR REMEDY’S ‘CONTROL’ LETS PLAYERS SNAP AND SHARE THE STRANGEST OF THINGS

Update for Critically Acclaimed Supernatural Action-Adventure Game Now Available to Players on PS4, Xbox One and PC

CALABASAS, Calif. – Oct. 16, 2019 – Global videogame publisher 505 Games and internationally renowned developer Remedy Entertainment today released ‘Photo Mode’ as a free update for the award-winning supernatural action-adventure game Controlavailable now to all players on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Control’s newly added Photo Mode invites players to express their creativity by capturing, customizing and sharing their favorite moments in just a few easy steps. Accessible through the in-game options, the Photo Mode menu provides players with both a Camera tab and a Filters tab, offering access to a set of tools which allow players to customize and adjust their captured content before sharing online. Players can adjust aperture, broaden or tighten the field of view, change the focus distance and select from ten filters available in Photo Mode. Players can also remove characters from shot selects, offering unobstructed views of Control’s brutalist hallways, big open spaces and otherworldly phenomena creeping in from strange dimensions.

Control debuted to acclaim this summer, with critics calling the game “a visually stunning trip” (Entertainment Weekly), “a visual triumph” (The Hollywood Reporter) and “an artistic achievement” (Polygon), praising Control as both a technical and artistic marvel. Control on PC is one of the first games to support multiple ray-traced effects, including ray-traced reflections, contact shadows, and indirect diffuse lighting.

After a secretive agency in New York is invaded by an otherworldly threat, players take on the role of Jesse Faden, the new Director struggling to regain Control. This sandbox-style, gameplay-driven experience built on the proprietary Northlight engine challenges players to master a combination of supernatural abilities, modifiable loadouts and reactive environments while fighting through the deep and mysterious worlds Remedy is known and loved for.

Control is now available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. For more information and regular updates on Control, please visit www.controlgame.com.
