EVERSPACE 2 Hits Early Access And Games In Development January 18

ROCKFISH Games struck gold with EVERSPACE, a single-player space shooter that used roguelike elements to keep gamers coming back, but they’re not content to just mine the same vein with the sequel.

Instead, the indie developer will be moving to an open-world space shooter design for EVERSPACE 2, and will be using fan feedback to influence the ongoing development via Early Access on Steam and the GOG Games in Development program.

The Early Access launch will include HOTAS support, for those with flight sticks, allowing even better control over your chosen craft. EVERSPACE 2 might be a year or more out from full release, but the game looks gorgeous and – based on hands-on time with early preview code – plays very smoothly as well.

Here’s the press release:

EVERSPACE 2 Early Access Set for January 18, 2021

Alongside the upcoming Steam Early Access launch,  EVERSPACE 2 will also arrive on the GOG Games in Development program.

Hamburg, Germany – January 5, 2021 – ROCKFISH Games has announced their highly anticipated upcoming single-player space looter shooter EVERSPACE 2 will arrive in Steam Early Access and the GOG Games in Development program on January 18, 2021. Priced at €37.99 / $39.99 / £31.99, the game will launch in English with professional voice acting for the first 12+ hours of the story campaign and several side missions that take place in the first two star systems of the final game. The initial version will be good for at least 25 hours of gameplay, while introducing pilots to EVERSPACE 2’s core gameplay mechanics of space combat, exploration, mining, puzzle-solving, traveling, trading, itemization, crafting, ship customization, player and companion perks as well as five different player ship subclasses.

The full version for PC, including Mac and native Linux support, will be released at a reasonably increased price in the first half of 2022 and come with UI and text language support for German, French, Italian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Polish, Russian, simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

“After multiple rounds of community testing by some 2,000 players, and great feedback from various gaming outlets and content creators on the closed Beta, EVERSPACE 2 is ready for Early Access. We can’t wait to receive feedback on the initial release version from space game enthusiasts on Steam and GOG,” says Michael Schade, CEO & co-founder of ROCKFISH Games. “Of course, the game is far from being finished. On top of the two star systems EVERSPACE 2 pilots will be able to explore in Early Access at launch, we plan to have four to six more as well as several additional player ship subclasses beyond the Interceptor, Sentinel, Striker, Gunship, and Scout at launch, to be gradually added on a quarterly basis. In the final game, players will also be able to enjoy twice as much story content plus lots of worthwhile endgame activities. We look forward to working closely with our community over the course of the next 12 to 18 months to make an outstanding narrative-driven open-world space looter shooter.”

Also, due to high demand from hardcore space simulation fans, the Early Access version of EVERSPACE 2 will offer fully configurable HOTAS support and presets for popular Logitech and Thrustmaster joysticks hardware setups.

EVERSPACE 2 can be wishlisted on Steam where the initial prototype version of the game is also available as a free demo. On GOG, the game can be wishlisted here.

New EVERSPACE 2 Details Released Via Kickstarter Update

ROCKFISH Games had a very successful Kickstarter for EVERSPACE 2, a great-expanded sequel to their roguelike space shooter, and they’ve maintained that momentum with a well-received alpha test and constant community updates.

The latest update, shared to Kickstarter, shared details on upcoming plans for new features, as well as a look at the game’s second star system. This really is a much bigger game than the original, and changed in some fairly drastic ways to boot.

There’s a demo available on Steam if you think you might be into it, and you can grab that here, but I’ll warn you – you won’t be able to wait for this Fall’s closed beta if you do…

Here’s the press release:

New Kickstarter Update Shares EVERSPACE 2 Alpha Highlights & Early Second Star System Details

Menu updates, sneak peek at perks from a new companion, & star system Union details from ROCKFISH Games

Hamburg, Germany – July 24, 2020 – The ROCKFISH Games team is riding high after a successful launch of the EVERSPACE 2 closed alpha. Incredible reveals of closed alpha gameplay and planetary location combat were followed by the release of the prototype demo on Steam and amazing charity stream by Cohh Carnage. All of these combined resulted in over 90,000 downloads of the Steam demo and an increase to more than 155,000 wishlists for the title coming to Early Access this December.

The July Kickstarter update shares details on the game’s second star system, Union, new features planned for Early Access, and an early look at perks connected to a new companion character.

Trading plays a bigger role in the game’s second star system, Union, allowing opportunities for the transport of legal commodities and smuggling less lawful substances. The local authorities, the Okkar, will enforce their laws at gunpoint so players will have to choose between fleeting to another star system or fighting their way through increasingly difficult waves of enemies as their wanted level rises.

The team also introduces Dr. Delia Wendo, the third companion players will meet during their journey. This companion grants access to perks affecting Nano Bots, Energy Orbs, and an unannounced feature.

In addition to early details about Union, the July Kickstarter update touches on gameplay changes, visual improvements, and community requested features. Find out more in the July EVERSPACE 2 Kickstarter update.

EVERSPACE 2 is planned to reach Closed Beta in Fall 2020 with Early Access on Steam is currently scheduled for December 2020. The full version is scheduled for release in Q1 2022. A demo version of EVERSPACE 2 featuring early content from the game is available as a free download on Steam.

EVERSPACE 2 Closed Alpha Releasing On Steam

With all due respect to Elite: Dangerous, which skews just a little more towards realism than I want in my day to day gaming life, my favourite space game on the Xbox One is EVERSPACE – but it’s about to be dethroned by EVERSPACE 2.

Check out the Alpha Gameplay trailer and the Alpha Planetary Combat trailers, then tell me this game doesn’t look amazing:

Closed Beta for the game is slated for Fall of 2020, with Early Access on Steam targeting December 2020. The full game will hit PC, PS4, and Xbox One in Q1 of 2022, though you’d imagine that’ll change to the next-gen consoles.

Here’s the press release:

Franchise Premiere: EVERSPACE 2 Pilots Visit Planetary Locations in Closed Alpha

For the first time in EVERSPACE history, players will travel from deep space to deep underground and everything in between in the new EVERSPACE 2 Closed Alpha. Containing new ships, equipment, characters, missions, and planetary locations, the Closed Alpha shows off more than 10 hours of never seen before content.

Hamburg, Germany – June 15, 2020 – ROCKFISH Games is releasing the Closed Alpha of EVERSPACE 2 on Steam, giving more than 1,200 Kickstarter supporters an early hands-on experience with content planned for the game’s Steam Early Access release in December. At this time, Closed Alpha keys are only available as prizes on the ROCKFISH Games Friday streams or media partner events such as CohhCarnage’s charity stream on https://www.twitch.tv/GCXEvent, starting today at CEST 2:00 pm / 8:00 am EDT / 5:00 am PDT.

“Creating large open-world games with skill-based second-to-second gameplay and complex player progression can be a beast as there are so many different ways to play through the story campaign while also free-roaming and doing side missions or mini-jobs in any given order with a myriad of possible loadouts at the players’ disposal,” said Michael Schade, CEO at ROCKFISH Games; “Following the great results of working exclusively with our most committed fans on the predecessor’s pre-release, we very much look forward to daring pilots taking the closed Alpha of EVERSPACE 2 for a spin and sharing their experience to help us nail the core game before we go into Beta and Steam Early Access, later this year.”

The Closed Alpha gives players access to approximately 10 hours of gameplay including a story beat and free exploration, culminating in the first star system’s boss fight. In addition to new Ship Devices and Ultimate Abilities, players will be able to explore the all-new pilot and companion perk system.

While pilot perks are level-based, companion perks can be unlocked through various resources players gather along their journey.

Through main storyline content, scripted side missions, and various jobs, players will be able to reach the Closed Alpha cap of level 10. New ships, NPCs, and equipment have been added for players to discover as they explore even more regions in space, planetary locations, and cave systems in the game’s first solar system.

There are lots of handcrafted locations to discover in the first solar system; some won’t even be on the players’ radar until they stumble over them.

The Closed Alpha is English-only, with plans to localize in French, Italian, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Korean at full release. Quality narrative cutscenes and text-to-speech mission dialogues will serve as placeholders until Steam Early Access.

EVERSPACE 2 is planned to reach Closed Beta in Fall 2020. Early Access of EVERSPACE 2 on Steam is currently scheduled for December 2020, with the full version for PC, PlayStation® 4 and Xbox One scheduled for release in Q1 2022. A demo version of EVERSPACE 2 featuring early content from the game is available as a free download on Steam as part of the Steam Game Festival, Summer Edition.

EVERSPACE 2 Hits Stretch Goal In Dramatic Fundraiser Finish

Just shy of 8,000 backers pushed EVERSPACE 2’s fundraising campaign past ‘fully funded’ status and then past the first stretch goal just minutes prior to the campaign’s end. It was a thrilling, if somewhat stressful, finish for the development team, as the game was still short of completing its funding requirement just 24 hours before the campaign’s end.
“We are absolutely overwhelmed by the passion and confidence our fans have shown,” remarked Michael Schade, CEO and co-founder of ROCKFISH Games, in a statement. “We are well aware that this is not to be taken for granted nowadays and would like to express our deepest gratitude to all supporters once again.”
Hitting the stretch goal means the development team will also be working on The Ancient’s Rift, what sounds like an endgame challenge that tasks players with surviving for as long as they can to unlock rewards, loot, and experience.
The game will be arriving on Steam in Early Access in 2020. It will be making the leap to consoles at some point in the future.
Here’s the press release:

EVERSPACE 2 Hits $560,069 USD On Kickstarter With First Stretch Goal Unlocked

The Kickstarter campaign for EVERSPACE 2, the ambitious open world space shooter by ROCKFISH Games, ended successfully with $560,069 USD pledged by 7979 backers after an epic final sprint. With only minutes before the end of the campaign, the first stretch goal “The Ancients’ Rift” was reached as well.

Hamburg, Germany – November 8, 2019 – The Kickstarter campaign for EVERSPACE 2 with a funding goal of $493,000 USD – by far the most ambitious video game crowdfunding campaign from Germany this year – ended after a thrilling end rally bringing in $560,069 USD from a total of 7979 supporters. After the initial campaign goal was reached in a brilliant final sprint, the first stretch goal “The Ancients’ Rift” was unlocked only 22 hours later, only minutes before the campaign ended. Thanks to this stretch goal, daring space pilots can look forward to extra valuable loot and increasingly difficult challenges in the end game.
Backers who supported the EVERSPACE 2 Kickstarter campaign at the Standard Edition or above levels can look forward to playing the prototype version of EVERSPACE 2 which has been shown at numerous gaming events. This prototype version is expected to be released to backers in mid-December 2019. The Hamburg-based team is currently adapting the prototype for PCs with different performance levels and graphics options to provide the best possible player experience even at this early stage.
The ROCKFISH Games team has recorded a short vlog thanking their partners and outlining a few next steps for the project:

Space shooter fans who missed the Kickstarter campaign can still participate in the project or get a pre-order discount of 12% on the Steam Early Access version of EVERSPACEat the ROCKFISH Games Store. A selection of rewards from the Kickstarter campaign, such as various levels of pre-early access and digital goodies like the original soundtrack or artbooks from EVERSPACE 2, are also available.
“After our fans pushed through to the funding goal with an incredible effort Sunday night, we saw our community keep up that fighting spirit into the four hour grande finale live stream to also unlock the first stretch goal, before the end of the campaign on Monday midnight,” says Michael Schade, CEO and co-founder of ROCKFISH Games. “We are absolutely overwhelmed by the passion and confidence our fans have shown. We are well aware that this is not to be taken for granted nowadays and would like to express our deepest gratitude to all supporters once again. Now, we can develop EVERSPACE 2 as planned with close connection with our community and – as requested by our fans – release it first on Steam Early Access in September 2020.”
Parallel to the successful conclusion of the Kickstarter campaign, the enormous general visibility of EVERSPACE 2 on the internet, especially on Twitch and YouTube as well as on social media, and a massive sales promotion of its predecessor including all DLCs on Steam, generated a further 20,000 Steam wishlist entries for EVERSPACE 2 in the last four weeks.

EVERSPACE 2 Kickstarter Crosses 60% Funded

Developers ROCKFISH Games new open-world space shooter EVERSPACE 2 has passed the 60% funding mark, with 11 days still to go in the Kickstarter campaign.
Backing the game on Kickstarter will grant access to the beta on Steam later this year. I’ve had the chance to go hands on with the beta and it’s really amped up my desire to play the full game. The beta, which features only 1/10th the star systems that the final game will have, was still a lot of fun to blast around in – and that’s with only three available ships, all from the medium fighter class. The full game, with over 100 ships to collect and fly, will provide games with a ton of playtime.
I’m a huge fan of the photo mode, which lets you freeze time and move the camera to whatever position you want, and it’s going to allow gamers to get really creative and capture some amazing pics. I captured these after playing with the camera for a few minutes – people who put some time into it are going to get just ridiculous results.

Over 100 Ships And The Meaning Of Life In EVERSPACE 2

The independent developer ROCKFISH Games reveals new details about the game’s story as well as the player ships in EVERSPACE 2 in their first two vlogs of the Kickstarter campaign, which has reached 60% of its financing goal after just a little over half of its term.

Hamburg, Germany – October 24, 2019 – After three weeks, the Kickstarter campaign for EVERSPACE 2, the new open-world space shooter from independent developer ROCKFISH Games, reached more than 60% of its EUR 450,000 (~USD 500,000) funding goal: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rockfishgames/everspace-2.
In addition to significantly improved graphics, a much larger game world and persistent player progression, the Hamburg-based studio continues to have an open ear for community suggestions by placing a high emphasis on extended storytelling and a vast selection of player ships as indicated by the recent announcements on the background story and modular design of player ships in EVERSPACE 2.
Building off the change from the predecessor’s roguelike game mechanics to open-world gameplay with classic RPG elements, the story of the campaign with around 20 hours of playing time is also moving into focus. The hero’s journey will continue as a clone pilot from the previous game, and fans can also look forward to meeting a few familiar faces. The circumstances, however, are completely new: the hero’s motivation is not just to save the entire galaxy, but to search for the purpose of life and his own place in society. The creative team took inspiration from sci-fi film classics like Blade Runner, The Sixth Day and video games like Detroit: Become Human, which all deal with the subject of what it means to be human.
The entire game world of EVERSPACE 2 will also be more lively and differentiated. Outlaws will organize themselves into individual clans, which will differ from each other both visually and in their technological development. Assisting in the design of one of these outlaw clans, including a portrait of the boss, is one of the top Kickstarter rewards with only two left. Fiction will also play an important role in the EVERSPACE 2 space opera: all kinds of fantastic creatures will cross the player’s paths. Some of them even so gigantic that they could devour entire spaceships whole.
ROCKFISH Games is also adhering to wishes from the community with a multitude of new player ships. In addition to an open game world, space game enthusiasts can look forward to a larger selection of spaceships with extensive possibilities for individualization. Featuring  primary, secondary and tertiary colours as well as the vessels’ insignia, various ship hulls, wings, engines and extentitions can be unlocked and interchanged in a multitude of combinations. The medium fighter class will be supplemented with a light and a heavy class, which will differ considerably in their abilities. Well over 100 different player ships will be available in the final game. Naming and designing one of these ships is another Kickstarter reward. 13 fans have already fulfilled their dream of becoming a spaceship designer, which leaves seven rewards available as the campaign is halfway over.
“In developing the campaign, it was particularly important for us to not only pick up the story from the acclaimed first part of the series, but also that our characters gain more emotional depth and multi-faceted motivation. We put a lot of time and effort into the storytelling and also have support from top storywriter Joshua Rubin to ensure the narrative quality of the 20-hour campaign to reflect our increased ambitions,” said Michael Schade, CEO and co-founder of ROCKFISH Games. “In addition to the much more extensive story in an open-world, the role-playing elements and the loot system, one of the biggest features in EVERSPACE 2 is the modular system for an almost infinite number of different player ships that still don’t look arbitrary and also offer different playing styles and extensive customization options.“
Early access of EVERSPACE 2 on Steam is currently scheduled for September 2020, with the full version for PC, PlayStation® 4 and Xbox One scheduled for release in the second half of 2021. Backers of the Kickstarter campaign will receive the demo version of EVERSPACE 2 via Steam later this year.

EVERSPACE 2 Kickstarter Hits One Third Funded With 27 Days Remaining

Haven’t heard of EVERSPACE 2 – the open world (galaxy?) space shooter from Rockfish Games and sequel to what was arguably 2016’s top space shooter? Check out this 20 minute gameplay video of the Gamescom build:

They’ve crossed $220,000 CDN raised in just a few days, so I’m hoping they’ll hit that $658,000 CDN goal before the end of the month. Gamers who want to support the development (and claim some pretty sweet gifts in exchange) can do so here on Kickstarter.

'EVERSPACE 2' Kickstarter Campaign Targeting $493,000 US

I was a huge fan of the first EVERSPACE, despite my general dislike for games with ALL CAPS NAMES, so I was delighted to hear there’d be a sequel – even more so when I learned they were transitioning away from some of the roguelike elements I wasn’t particularly enamoured with.
But to make a big open-world space shooter you need money, so ROCKFISH Games has a Kickstarter running that I’m hoping they’ll be able to fund before it expires on November 4th. The ask isn’t bad at all, just $493,000 US – that’s approximately 1/500th what the possibly-eternally-in-development Star Citizen has raised – so check out the Kickstarter link HERE and donate if you’re up to it or share it with your friends who might be interested!

Uncompromising Space Action on Kickstarter: EVERSPACE 2 Campaign Asking $493,000 USD

Following ROCKFISH Games’ announcement of the new open world space shooter EVERSPACE 2 for PC and consoles at gamescom: Opening Night Live, a Kickstarter campaign begins today with a financing goal of 450,000 EUR (493,000 USD).

Hamburg, Germany – October 02, 2019 – The Kickstarter campaign for EVERSPACE 2, the new open world space shooter from independent Hamburg-based developer ROCKFISH Games started today with a base funding goal of 450,000 EUR (493,000 USD) and is set to end on November 4, 2019: EVERSPACE 2 on Kickstarter. Early Access on Steam is scheduled for September 2020 with the full release version for PC, PlayStation® 4, and Xbox One scheduled for the second half of 2021.
The official successor to the studio debut and surprise hit EVERSPACE – a title with over one million units sold, and also financed by a successful Kickstarter campaign with more than EUR 420,000 in 2015 – will completely surpass its predecessor in both quality and scope. Instead of the previous roguelike game mechanics, the focus in EVERSPACE 2 will be on open world gameplay combined with classic RPG elements and extended storytelling.
Thanks to the expanded perks and a brand new class-based player ship system with dozens of models, players can also fully customize their spaceship to their individual playing style with weapons, plating, and equipment, similar to classic RPG character development. Despite all the innovations, EVERSPACE 2 remains true to its space shooter core and presents fast-paced space action in the well-known EVERSPACE style.
The story of EVERSPACE2 continues from its successful predecessor. As one of the surviving clone pilots, the player is faced with the remnants of his past: the cloning program has been canceled, the colonial authorities have placed a bounty on him, and now that dying means the ultimate death the search for the meaning of life suddenly takes on a whole new importance. Fate, however, has big plans and soon the player discovers what it means to evolve from a former military clone to a truly real person. EVERSPACE 2 not only creates a powerful gaming experience, but also one that is visually impressive in the beautiful infinity of space where breathtaking cinematic scenery invites – encourages – exploration.
To ensure the narrative quality of the 20+ hours campaign, with countless side missions, ROCKFISH Games is working with creative minds such as Joshua Rubin, who has been involved in AAA productions such as Destiny, Assassin’s Creed II, and The Walking Dead. Streamline Studios and Volta will also be involved as external development partners.
“We are returning to Kickstarter to give our biggest fans the opportunity to be involved and influence the development of the game at an early stage,” says Michael Schade, CEO and co-founder of ROCKFISH Games. “Of course, we still have a lot of our own ideas to add to the basic game: from New Game+ to giant space monsters, so we’re excited to see how many of these stretch goals our community will unlock.”
The title is currently in the prototype stage and a playable demo version has already been presented at gamescom 2019, PAX West, Tokyo Game Show, and TwitchCon. Kickstarter backers will get access to the demo on Steam this year after a successful campaign.

20 Minute EVERSPACE 2 Let's Play Footage Released

It’s not often I’m this interested in a game that isn’t slated for release for another two years, but there’s something about EVERSPACE that’s sunk its hooks into me.
Check out this 20 minute narrated gameplay trailer and tell me I’m wrong though…

Here’s the press release:

ROCKFISH Games announced its new Open World Space Shooter EVERSPACE 2 for PC and consoles at gamescom: Opening Night Live.

The Kickstarter campaign for additional funding will start on September 09, 2019.
Hamburg, Germany – August 19, 2019 – After ROCKFISH Games landed a surprise hit on PC and consoles with its studio debut EVERSPACE, the independent developer from Hamburg just announced the official successor EVERSPACE 2 at gamescom: Opening Night Live. In contrast to the roguelike concept of its predecessor, EVERSPACE 2 is an open-world space shooter with classic RPG elements and persistent player progression, as well as a much larger number of player ships and significantly enhanced storytelling. EVERSPACE 2 launching on Steam Early Access is currently planned for the second half of 2020, with the full version for PC, PlayStation® 4 and Xbox One scheduled for the end of 2021.
EVERSPACE 2 will clearly outperform its predecessor in terms of both audiovisual quality and scope, which is reflected in the significantly higher development budget. The first trailer, which celebrated its premiere at gamescom: Opening Night Live and is available on the ROCKFISH Games YouTube channel at https://youtu.be/I-LNiZxsY7s, was created exclusively from in-game video material. Space game enthusiasts can get a first taste of quality, gameplay and open-world feeling at the ROCKFISH stand at the Indie Arena Booth in Hall 10.2, where a polished prototype will already be playable.
“With its innovative concept of rapid space battles with rogue-like elements and exciting storytelling, EVERSPACE was able to excite over a million PC and console players, but many of our fans and space game enthusiasts were still longing for an open-world space shooter with classic RPG elements in the EVERSPACE universe,” says Michael Schade, CEO and co-founder of ROCKFISH Games. “With EVERSPACE 2, we are making a big leap towards an open-world space shooter, but will still remain true to our DNA and offer exactly what our fans love: A beautiful fantastic sci-fi world paired with uncompromising space action that gets down to business right away”.
ROCKFISH Games plans to launch a Kickstarter campaign on September 9, 2019 with a funding goal of €450,000 for EVERSPACE 2. As with the successful campaign of its predecessor in 2015, the EVERSPACE community will thus be involved in the development process as early as possible. On the other hand, the financial independence of the studio will be further secured in order to ensure full creative control at all times during production and, if successful, to even increase the scope of the game by activating stretch goals.
After the world premiere at gamescom, ROCKFISH Games will present EVERSPACE 2 at Pax West in Seattle from August 29 to September 2 and at TwitchCon in San Diego from September 27 to 29.
