Three Ubisoft Games Now Available On Google Stadia

I would say my hype for Google’s Stadia streaming service is tempered a bit, even though I enjoy Telus Optik’s 1GB service at the house and should be in the perfect position to use it, but at least the launch library is decent-to-good – which is kind of rare if we’re considering this a console-like platform’s launch.
Ubisoft is helping the launch lineup with some variety, including Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Trials Rising, and Just Dance 2020.
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, and The Crew 2 will also be joining the ‘launch window’ party at some point, but the real thing I’m interested in is UPlay+ subscription service, which is expected in 2020.
As it sits Stadia has two major issues unrelated to the early quality concerns: the library isn’t that large, and people are reticent to buy games for streaming services. UPlay+ goes a long, long way towards solving both of those problems. It’ll be very interesting to see what the system’s streaming performance is like by the time that service arrives.

Darksiders: Genesis 'Abilities and Creature Cores' Trailer Showcases Customization and Combat

You can say a lot in a minute, and the latest gameplay trailer for Darksiders: Genesis does just that as it shows off abilities and Creature Cores and jacks the hype meter another 10% as we head towards its launch on PC, December 5th.
At first I was a little unsure about Airship Syndicate flipping the Darksiders IP into a top-down Diablo-style hack and slash, but they have absolutely killed it in terms of showcasing exactly why this is an absolutely must-play game this winter. With local and online co-op play, or the ability to go it alone if you’d prefer, and some options in how you spec your character this promises to be a real time-killer.
Here’s the press release:

New gameplay trailer for Darksiders: Genesis shows off customizable demon slaying

Vienna, Austria and Austin, Texas, November 19, 2019 – In a new gameplay trailer, developer Airship Syndicate and THQ Nordic present the so-called “Creature Core”-system which allows players to upgrade and customize their horseman’s battle skills. Both fighters begin with a variety of different attacks but will gain access to more devastating and fascinating ways to smash demons on their journey through hell. “Creature Cores” can be picked up afters slaying enemies and bosses and are also available for purchase at Vulgrim’s store in exchange for souls.
Release Dates:
PC/Stadia: December 5, 2019
All Consoles: February 14, 2020, Valentine’s Day
Pre-Order on PC here: https://darksiders.com/order-here/
The “Creature Core”-system allows the player to shift the balance between the different playstyles of WAR and STRIFE. Would you like to increase your attack power or add a lava trail to your dashes? Would you like a chance to spawn a hellhound whenever you attack or do you want to increase the amount of health & ammunition your enemies will drop?
Tailor your characters abilities to match your personal playstyle with the “Creature Core”-system.
Darksiders Genesis features the debut of the fourth and final horsemen – STRIFE – who battles alongside his brother and fellow horsemen WAR in the first ever Darksiders two-player co-op mode. Solo players will be able to alternate between STRIFE and WAR on the fly, taking advantage of STRIFE’s ranged and WAR’s melee style attacks. Both characters can build up a special attack meter that, when activated, temporarily turns them into a colossal creature that leaves epic destruction in its wake.
Darksiders Genesis is currently in development for PC, Google Stadia and all current-gen console platforms. The PC and Google Stadia versions of Darksiders Genesis will release on December 5, 2019. The console versions will release on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2020.

Cyberpunk 2077 Repeats as Golden Joystick Awards' Most Wanted Game

CD PROJEKT RED’s hugely-anticipated open-world RPG hasn’t lost any of its luster since last year’s Golden Joystick Awards, repeating as the Most Wanted Game.
The win isn’t surprising as the game has continued to look better and better as it winds its way through development. There’s slim chance it’ll three-peat though, as the game is slated for release on April 16th, 2020.
Here’s the press release:

Cyberpunk 2077 claims this year’s Golden Joystick for Most Wanted Game

CD PROJEKT RED announces Cyberpunk 2077 has been named the Most Wanted Game at the 37th Golden Joysticks Awards. This is the second year in a row gamers voted the studio’s upcoming open-world RPG their Most Wanted Game.

Prior to the announcement, during the award gala’s pre-show segment, a special video from the Golden Joystick team’s visit to CD PROJEKT RED was premiered. The video is hosted by Hollie Bennett (Head of Communication UK) and features Cyberpunk 2077’s Paweł Sasko (Lead Quest Designer), Miles Tost (Senior Level Designer), and Marcin Przybyłowicz (Music Director) talking about the game’s development, among others.
CD PROJEKT RED would like to thank everyone who voted for the game in this year’s Golden Joystick Awards — it truly is an honor!

Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition Now Available

When the Tomb Raider reboot was criticized for not having enough tomb raiding, the development team brought the heat for Shadow of the Tomb Raider and packed it full of exploration and encounters. Then they released seven post-launch DLC packs that added even more to the game – and if you missed out you can get it all in one convenient bundle with the Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition.
If you haven’t tried the reboot, but were a Tomb Raider fan back in the day I’d recommend picking this up. There’s just a massive amount of content here.

'Darksiders Genesis' Launch Dates Announced

Darksiders Genesis, the top-down action-adventure change of pace for the Darksiders franchise, will be arriving on PC and Google Stadia first, with a December 5th, 2019 release date announced today.
Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One gamers will need to wait until February 14th, 2020 to try their hand as the fourth of the Four Horseman, Strife.
I was sold on this one from the first footage. It’s not often a series can jump between genres successfully, or even tries to make that jump, but Airship Syndicate seems to have this nailed.

Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 already features a huge array of content, but that’ll grow significantly October 15th with the arrival of Episode 2 – Pentagon: The Last Castle.
The update – the largest title update for the game so far – includes a slew of new things to do, including new main missions, two new classified assignments, a new PVP mode, a new specialization, and a wide variety of gameplay improvements and additions.
Sounds like there’s no better time to return to the game and knock the rust off your guns before the October 15th release!

Here’s the press release:

Tom Clancy’s The Division® 2: “Episode 2 – Pentagon: The Last Castle” will Release on October 15

Biggest Title Update to Date Includes New Main Missions, Latest Specialization, Major Fixes and Improvements, New PvP Mode and More

Montreal — October 9, 2019 — Ubisoft announced October 15 as the release date for its latest content update for the live open world game Tom Clancy’s The Division® 2. In addition, later this month, players who did not have a chance to play The Division 2 yet will have the opportunity to try the game for free.**
Title Update 6 highlights The Division 2’s biggest title update to date for players, featuring “Episode 2 – Pentagon: The Last Castle,” a variety of game improvements and a new Conflict PvP mode. Episode 2 is available for Year 1 pass holders and UPLAY+* subscribers on October 15 (October 22 for all players). All changes and improvements, as well as the new mode, are available for all players on October 15.

The latest episode in The Division 2’s Year 1 free content plan features escalation in Washington D.C. for Division Agents, as Black Tusk forces continue to wreak havoc around the city. In Episode 2, players must fight to solve the ongoing outbreak crisis. It will be up to Agents to uncover the secrets inside the Pentagon before it falls into the hands of The Black Tusk.
Content featured in “Episode 2 – Pentagon: The Last Castle” includes:
Two New Main Missions
At the beginning of Episode 2, players will investigate a transmission from a fellow Agent scouting the Pentagon for the perfusion bioreactor. Securing the bioreactor would allow Agents to replicate the antiviral samples recovered at Tidal Basin. Agents must navigate flood damage and Black Tusk forces to take back The Last Castle. After securing their safe house, players will be able to access the two replayable main missions of Episode 2
  • First Main Mission – Pentagon: Agents will discover the location of the perfusion bioreactor inside the Pentagon’s underground research facility. The Black Tusk have already infiltrated the lab and are attempting to extract the reactor.
  • Second Main Mission – DARPA Research Labs: Players must make their way through the Pentagon and into the DARPA Labs, as the Black Tusk are in the process of transporting the perfusion bioreactor through an abandoned Cold War tunnel network.
New “Technician” Specialization: Effective October 15, Year 1 pass holders and UPLAY+ subscribers will instantly unlock the Technician Specialization. Players who do not own the Year 1 pass can unlock the specialization by completing a series of objectives. Additional rewards, including a signature weapon skin, are also available once the specialization is unlocked. The latest specialization includes:
  • Signature Weapon: P-017 Launcher – a multi-missile launcher. Agents can lock-on and hit up to six enemies (depending on available ammo). With a simple push of a button, six missiles are unleashed to seek out their targets.
  • Sidearm: Maxim 9
  • Skill Variant: Artificer Hive
  • Grenade Mod: EMP Grenade
Classified Assignments (Exclusive only to Year 1 Pass holders and UPLAY+ subscribers): Agents can take on two new Classified Assignments at a Boathouse and Embassy.
  • Marina: Outcasts have been moving weapons and supplies into a boathouse on the Potomac River, which was used as a transport depot during the outbreak to move assets to the Potomac Center and Roosevelt Island. Agents must investigate and seize all the weapons they can find.
  • Embassy: A Joint Task Force helicopter filled with supplies was shot down by the Outcasts and crashed through the roof of the Mexican Embassy in Washington D.C. Agents will be tasked to locate the helicopter rescue the pilot and secure the supplies before the Outcasts get there.
The latest title update also brings an unprecedented number of fixes and improvements, as well as a brand new PvP mode.

Major Fixes and Improvements
Players will see significant game improvements in The Division 2 effective October 15. These improvements were developed thanks to community feedback on game forums and following last month’s Elite Task Force workshop, during which community members visited Ubisoft Massive studio in Malmö, Sweden to share thoughts and ideas about the game. Fixes and improvements include:

  • Targeted Loot
  • Named Items overhauled
  • Crafting Changes
  • Recalibration Changes
  • Filled Brands
  • Inventory Management 2.0
  • Increased stash space
  • Rebalance of talents and weapons
  • Dark Zone Server Transfers
  • Updated Thieves’ Den Vendor
  • Dark Zone Supply Drops Changes
  • Occupied Dark Zone Ambushes
  • Normalization in Dark Zone changes
  • Conflict: Loadout Selection during map voting
  • Bonus armor visualization increased
  • Conflict: End of Match Rewards changes
  • Stored tutorials
As part of Ubisoft’s commitment to the overall fixes and improvements to the game, The Division 2’s second raid will be delayed. The additional time allows the development team to focus on the overall quality of The Division 2, while developing a raid that will better meet the standards of its players.

New Conflict PvP Mode
The new Team Elimination PvP mode pits two teams of four into a best-of-seven round battle in D.C. Rounds will end once an entire team has been eliminated or time has expired. Team Elimination provides a teamwork focused tactical experience for players. Team Elimination takes effect on October 15.
New map: The “Wharf”
The new map ‘Wharf’ is on par with previous PvP maps in terms of size and takes players to an abandoned fishing harbor. It offers tactical gameplay opportunities, through flanking routes and raised positions.
Free Weekend
Later this month, players who did not have a chance to play The Division 2 yet will have the opportunity to try the game for free.** In addition Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 will be on sale, allowing players to continue the adventure at a discounted price. Led by Massive Entertainment in collaboration with seven other studios around the world**, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 is the next evolution in the open-world online shooter RPG genre that the first game helped establish. Set seven months after a deadly virus was released in New York City, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 brings players into a fractured and collapsing Washington D.C. The world is on the brink, its people living through the biggest crisis ever faced in human history. As veteran Division agents, players are the last hope against the complete fall of society as enemy factions vie for control of the city. If Washington D.C. is lost, the entire nation falls. Building upon more than two years of listening to and learnings from The Division community, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 will offer a substantial campaign that organically flows into a robust endgame, to create a cohesive and meaningful experience for all types of players, helping players emphasize their freedom to make strategic choices and hone their own approach.

Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 is available on the Xbox One family of devices including the Xbox One X, PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, Windows PC, UPLAY+, Ubisoft’s subscription service. Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 will also launch on the new generation gaming platform, Stadia.

Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel) Announced for Marvel's Avengers Game @ NYCC

Marvel’s Avengers game looks better every time it’s shown, and the New York Comic Con footage just released showcasing Kamala Khan (Ms Marvel) is no exception.
Ms. Marvel is a relatively new hero to the Marvel Universe, with the ability to alter her shape, size, and appearance. In Marvel’s Avengers she gains her powers during A-Day, the disaster during the game’s intro that ends with the disbanding of the Avengers, and – years later – is the impetus behind getting the team back together to solve the mysteries behind that fateful day.
Marvel’s Avengers is slated to hit PC, PS4, and Xbox One on May 15, 2020. It will also be hitting Google’s new Stadia streaming service the same day.

MS. MARVEL JOINS MARVEL’S AVENGERS

Marvel’s Rising Star Kamala Khan Sets Out to Expose AIM and Reassemble the Avengers

NEW YORK, NY (October 4, 2019) – Today at New York Comic Con 2019, Square Enix® and Crystal Dynamics® revealed that fan-favorite Kamala Khan is the latest playable Super Hero to be featured in Marvel’s Avengers. Co-created by G. Willow Wilson, Adrian Alphona, Sana Amanat, and Stephen Wacker, in the comics, Kamala is an enthusiastic teenager who defends her hometown Jersey City as the costumed Ms. Marvel. First appearing in Captain Marvel #14 in August 2013, Kamala quickly captured the imagination of generations of True Believers, leading to her own monthly comic series in February 2014.

A self-avowed Avengers fan, in the game’s original story, Kamala Khan must apply her intellect, optimism, and unique abilities to the task of unravelling a global conspiracy and reassembling her personal heroes in time to stop a new secretive organization, Advanced Idea Mechanics (AIM), before they unleash one of the greatest threats Earth has ever faced.

Players first encounter a young Kamala during A-Day, where Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor are unveiling a hi-tech Avengers Headquarters in San Francisco — including the reveal of their own helicarrier powered by an experimental energy source. The celebration turns deadly when a catastrophic accident results in massive devastation. Kamala is exposed to the mysterious Terrigen Mist, and finds herself developing extraordinary polymorphic powers, which she subsequently hides for years. Blamed for the tragedy, the Avengers disband. Five years later, with all Super Heroes outlawed and the world in peril, Kamala uncovers a shocking conspiracy and embarks on a quest to reassemble the heroes she believes in and to become the hero she was destined to be.

Players begin the journey as Kamala Khan and learn the origins of her extraordinary powers. As the story expands, Kamala plays an essential role in bringing the disbanded Avengers back together. As each Super Hero is added to the roster, players must master all of their unique abilities, rebuild and customize the Avengers team to face increasingly growing threats only the Avengers together can defeat.

“An optimistic fan girl of the Avengers, Kamala Khan is the perfect character for the story we’re telling in Marvel’s Avengers,” said Shaun Escayg, Creative Director and Writer at Crystal Dynamics. “Telling our story of Kamala’s coming-of-age brings a fresh, hopeful perspective to the gameplay experience and her unique abilities as Ms. Marvel make her a character every person can relate to and will want to play. Kamala Khan is one of the unique characters that makes our game stand apart from any Avengers story experienced before.”

“Kamala is an inspired and perfectly fitting choice to join the ranks of, and reassemble, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes,” said Bill Rosemann, VP of Creative at Marvel Games. “Perhaps more than any other character invented over the past decade, Ms. Marvel has not only charmed the hearts of longtime True Believers, but her unique mix of classic Marvel heroic elements and modern cultural relevancy has resulted in a headline-generating cultural icon.”

“It is a thrill to see Kamala in the Marvel’s Avengers game,” said Sana Amanat, VP of Content and Character Development at Marvel. “Crystal Dynamics has done a marvelous job of crafting a brand-new take on Kamala, while staying true to the spirit of her inspiring character, charismatic persona, and relatable purpose. Fans of the character are in for quite a ride, along with a few surprises, when Marvel’s Avengers makes its debut next year.”

“I think Kamala is a perfect fit for a game like this, since she sees the Marvel world the same way we do as fans and players,” said G. Willow Wilson, co-creator of Ms. Marvel. “Kamala allows us to imagine what we ourselves would do if we suddenly discovered we had superpowers and got to stand alongside our heroes in their time of greatest need.”

Marvel’s Avengers will release simultaneously for the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, the Xbox One family of devices including Xbox One X, Stadia, and PC on May 15, 2020. The game is currently rated RP, rating pending by the ESRB.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Hits PC in November

Rockstar’s smash hit Red Dead Redemption 2 – reviewed here on Xbox One X – will arrive on PC in November, coming first to Rockstar’s own game launcher service and a handful of digital launchers including Epic Game Store, and Greenman Gaming before arriving on Steam in December.

The game was already gorgeous on console, so I can’t wait to see what it’ll look like on a high end PC.

Picking the game up on the Rockstar Game Launcher will give you a couple of pre-order bonuses that seem too good to pass up, though if you choose anything but Max Payne 3 and Bully for your bonus games I’m not sure we can be friends anymore…

Darksiders Genesis: 'Introducing War' Trailer Released

Darksiders Genesis looks incredibly promising, taking the Darksiders action-adventure gameplay and flipping it into a 3/4 top down perspective with tons of enemies to dispatch, bosses to destroy, and loot to….wait that sounds a lot like Diablo, doesn’t it?
Regardless of the influences, Darksiders Genesis looks like it’ll be a blast and part of that is getting more backstory on War, the Horseman of the Apocalypse who started the series by getting framed in the original Darksiders. With Genesis set prior to the original game, players will play as both War and his brother Strife – who favors more of a ranged approach to combat.
Check out the press release below:

Darksiders Genesis: Introducing War – Rider of the Red Horse

Vienna, Austria and Austin, Texas, September 4th, 2019 – May we introduce you to War?
War, the Rider of the Red Horse, is both honorable and savage. The youngest of the Four Horseman, but his age is no indication of his experience on the battleground. He has battled countless enemies with his furious weapon Chaoseater and the protection of his impervious armor. Always by his side is Ruin, War’s phantom steed. Ruin is both mighty and graceful with its blackened coat and fiery hooves and mane. War was wrongly framed by Abaddon for starting the Apocalypse too soon and was imprisoned for over one hundred years by The Charred Council. Well, at least he has beautiful long and white hair. Without split ends.
In Darksiders Genesis you can choose to play either War or his brother Strife, and head into combat side by side in two player cooperative mode. The story takes place before the events of the original game when Lucifer, the enigmatic and deceptive demon king, plots to upset the Balance by granting power to master demons throughout Hell. If you are a melee type of gamer, War is your (gauntlet) left-hand.
Darksiders Genesis will release on PC, PlayStation®4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Google Stadia later this year. Pre-order here: https://darksiders.com/order-here/
