EVERSPACE 2 Hits Early Access And Games In Development January 18

ROCKFISH Games struck gold with EVERSPACE, a single-player space shooter that used roguelike elements to keep gamers coming back, but they’re not content to just mine the same vein with the sequel.

Instead, the indie developer will be moving to an open-world space shooter design for EVERSPACE 2, and will be using fan feedback to influence the ongoing development via Early Access on Steam and the GOG Games in Development program.

The Early Access launch will include HOTAS support, for those with flight sticks, allowing even better control over your chosen craft. EVERSPACE 2 might be a year or more out from full release, but the game looks gorgeous and – based on hands-on time with early preview code – plays very smoothly as well.

Here’s the press release:

EVERSPACE 2 Early Access Set for January 18, 2021

Alongside the upcoming Steam Early Access launch,  EVERSPACE 2 will also arrive on the GOG Games in Development program.

Hamburg, Germany – January 5, 2021 – ROCKFISH Games has announced their highly anticipated upcoming single-player space looter shooter EVERSPACE 2 will arrive in Steam Early Access and the GOG Games in Development program on January 18, 2021. Priced at €37.99 / $39.99 / £31.99, the game will launch in English with professional voice acting for the first 12+ hours of the story campaign and several side missions that take place in the first two star systems of the final game. The initial version will be good for at least 25 hours of gameplay, while introducing pilots to EVERSPACE 2’s core gameplay mechanics of space combat, exploration, mining, puzzle-solving, traveling, trading, itemization, crafting, ship customization, player and companion perks as well as five different player ship subclasses.

The full version for PC, including Mac and native Linux support, will be released at a reasonably increased price in the first half of 2022 and come with UI and text language support for German, French, Italian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Polish, Russian, simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

“After multiple rounds of community testing by some 2,000 players, and great feedback from various gaming outlets and content creators on the closed Beta, EVERSPACE 2 is ready for Early Access. We can’t wait to receive feedback on the initial release version from space game enthusiasts on Steam and GOG,” says Michael Schade, CEO & co-founder of ROCKFISH Games. “Of course, the game is far from being finished. On top of the two star systems EVERSPACE 2 pilots will be able to explore in Early Access at launch, we plan to have four to six more as well as several additional player ship subclasses beyond the Interceptor, Sentinel, Striker, Gunship, and Scout at launch, to be gradually added on a quarterly basis. In the final game, players will also be able to enjoy twice as much story content plus lots of worthwhile endgame activities. We look forward to working closely with our community over the course of the next 12 to 18 months to make an outstanding narrative-driven open-world space looter shooter.”

Also, due to high demand from hardcore space simulation fans, the Early Access version of EVERSPACE 2 will offer fully configurable HOTAS support and presets for popular Logitech and Thrustmaster joysticks hardware setups.

EVERSPACE 2 can be wishlisted on Steam where the initial prototype version of the game is also available as a free demo. On GOG, the game can be wishlisted here.

Canadian game 'A Fold Apart' Hits Apple Arcade, Switch, and PC April 17th

Guelph, Ontario’s Lightning Rod Games is bringing their new paper-folding puzzle game A Fold Apart to Apple Arcade, the Nintendo Switch, and Steam next week.
Launching April 17th, the game depicts a couple’s long-distance relationships and the struggles to get – and stay – on the same page despite the distance.
Here’s the press release:

‘A Fold Apart’ is Launching April 17

A poignant story about a long-distance relationship, love, and the technology that connects us all.

Ontario, Canada – April 9, 2020 – Lightning Rod Games announced today that their paper-folding puzzle game A Fold Apart will release next week, April 17, 2020 on Apple Arcade for iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Apple TV, and Mac alongside Nintendo Switch and Windows via Steam.
An interactive, narrative-driven puzzle displaying the emotional ups and downs of a couple’s long-distance relationship, A Fold Apart offers a beautiful acknowledgment of both the challenges and wonder that come from how we communicate with loved ones while living apart. The launch trailer reveals a familiar yet unique gameplay mechanic — flipping and folding paper — to bring the couple closer together over the course of their everyday lives.
“When we first started developing A Fold Apart in 2015, my goal was to tell a touching story about the romantic, sentimental, but fundamentally lonely feelings that my significant other and I experienced while living apart,” explains Lightning Rod Games Co-founder Mark Laframboise.
“We never would have imagined that we’d be releasing the game in an environment where nearly all of us around the world are physically separated from loved ones and experiencing that loneliness firsthand. Whether you are self-isolating, distance learning, telecommuting, or keeping in touch online, we are all in one form of long-distance relationship or another. Creating A Fold Apart was a way for me to navigate those difficult emotions and I hope that the game can help others find some hope and comfort (and, most importantly, fun!) in these challenging times as well.”
A Fold Apart features over fifty handcrafted paper-folding puzzles — in fact, the very first versions of these puzzles were made with simple grid paper and stored in a binder — in a colourful, tactile paper aesthetic. Choose which couple to play as, and unfold both sides of their story as they navigate the complexities of (mis)communication and the emotional rollercoaster that separation brings.
In a world of folding paper, there are two sides to every story. Discover yours on April 17.

Cloudpunk To Hit Consoles In 2020

Indie RPG Cloudpunk, previously announced for PC, will also be coming to Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One this year, ION LANDS and Merge Games have announced.
The voxel-based graphics give Cloudpunk a very distinctive look, but it’s the list of titles that inspired the game that have my interest. After all, when you tap Firewatch and Kentucky Route Zero as your inspirations, you’re setting a high bar for narrative delivery.
There’s no release date for the cyberpunk RPG, but it’s expected to arrive later this year.

Outrun The Sun In 'Dark Moon'

In Dark Moon, gamers will be forced to scavenge, build, and – above all else – stay on the move. The survival strategy game, set on the moon, sees a future in which a massive solar storm has devastated the Earth to an unknown extent and those trapped on the moon must stay ahead of the sun’s killer rays.
It’s not just a matter of gathering resources and keeping moving, if the trailer is any indication you’ll also need to worry about the morale of your crew and – if you can justify it to yourself – lie to them to keep them going.
It’s an interesting twist on the normal strategy game, so I’ll be keeping an eye on Dark Moon as it winds its way towards its June 2020 release date.
Here’s the press release:

Frontline Update Now Available For Insurgency: Sandstorm

Insurgency: Sandstorm is one of those games that I really liked and kept playing for a few months after reviewing it, but eventually drifted away when my group of friends didn’t pick up on it.
The Frontline Update shows me I should maybe get some new friends…
New World Interactive’s focus on squad play, not individual heroics, is really an oddity in today’s shooters and it’s something I miss. The new PVP mode, Frontline, sounds like it’ll test your team’s tactics to the limit, forcing you to keep moving and evaluating a changing battlefield on the fly. Coordinating the balance of attacking versus defending will be key, and I’m curious to see how intense a game gets when two evenly-matched teams are on the battlefield.
[foogallery id=”9084″]
Here’s the press release:

Insurgency: Sandstorm – The Frontline Update is Available Now

Insurgency: Sandstorm, the smash-hit indie FPS from New World Interactive, officially releases its Frontline update, bringing a host of new features dedicated to streamlining matchmaking and offering fresh content on a weekly basis. The two defining features of this update are Frontline, an intense tug-of-war style PvP mode, and Hillside, a reimagining of the classic Insurgency map ‘Sinjar’.
In the new PvP mode, Frontline, teams must capture all enemy objectives one by one, before destroying the final weapon cache objective to win, whilst at the same time protecting their own objectives. Each match becomes a large-scale, simultaneous attack-and-defend battle, with fire support, vehicles, and teams battling it out for objectives that award respawns for their team.
Hillside is the latest map, a reimagining of the classic Insurgency: Source and Insurgency mod map ‘Sinjar’, this time taking place in a new snow environment. The wide, open spaces for attackers and high elevation positions for defenders is a callback to the classic storm-the-beach D-Day FPS experience of old. Hillside is joined by two Galil LMG-variant assault rifles, a new 3x scope for the QBZ-03, and a batch of winter cosmetics for both Insurgents and Security factions. All this content and much more is playable across all maps and game modes!
The new map and game mode arrive with numerous bug fixes and quality of life changes, including a complete overhaul of the Play menu and official matchmaking, and the introduction of limited time weekly playlists featuring “mutated” game modes with tweaked gameplay with everything from bolt-action rifles only to health stealing. You can find more detailed information on the patch notes here.
New World Interactive and Focus Home Interactive continue to be delighted with the response and community reception to Insurgency: Sandstorm so far. There are many more free content updates planned for the rest of this year and 2020, including modding support, Co-op and PvP game modes, maps, weapons, cosmetics, and more. Take a look at some of what’s due to arrive in the next fewmonths in the recently announced Free Content Roadmap.
Insurgency: Sandstorm is out now on PC.
