HITMAN 3 Release Date Confirmed For Switch

The HITMAN 3 release date on Nintendo Switch has been confirmed, and owners of Nintendo’s ‘sometimes portable, sometimes not’ console hybrid will be able to enjoy the neck-snapping, body-hiding fun of HITMAN 3 on January 20th alongside the other versions.

This release is a bit different from most, however, with the game only available via cloud streaming. This will mostly impact those of you who want to play on the go, as you’ll have to tether your Switch to a mobile WiFi signal – your phone for example – if you want to get your game on. It’s not clear how much data streaming HITMAN 3 will take up, but expect it to burn though Canada’s mobile data caps fairly quickly.

This ‘cloud-only’ release scheme is still unusual, done for the first time to get Control to run on Nintendo’s lower-powered hardware. I would expect it to become more common in the future, however, especially any time games are being ported from next-gen hardware. It’s an interesting idea, and it did allow the Switch to have the honour of being the first console to have raytracing in Control…

Here’s the trailer for the game. I’m looking forward to jumping into the dangerous world of Agent 47 day one. HITMAN 3 releases on all platforms on January 20th.

IO Interactive Reveals Final HITMAN 3 Locations

With just nine days until the launch of HITMAN 3, IO Interactive has unveiled the rest of the game’s six locations. Agent 47’s globetrotting murder parade will span three continents in the new game, let’s see what they are.

First up is Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. Agent 47 will explore the inner and outer workings of the newest Dubai attraction: the world’s tallest building.

I imagine someone’s going for a fall…

Next up is Dartmoor in the United Kingdom, where 47 will infiltrate the police force as they investigate a murder at Thornbridge Manor. Taking on the role of a detective, players can choose to solve the murder or eliminate their target or maybe even both?

Whatever you decide, next up is a trip to the land of beer and pretzels: Germany! Expect to see a lot of Berlin’s night life, though how much you leave alive is – as always – entirely up to you.

With the game half-over, it’s time to head to the Far East and Chongqing, China. This megacity is jammed with lights, colours, and people – all things that make it harder for someone looking to be stealthy…

Trading out the urban environment for a far more rural vista, Agent 47 heads to South America next to explore Mendoza, Argentina. Vineyards provide a lot of cover, and there’s no end to the wine…

Rounding things out is a trip to Romania, where Agent 47 will wrap up the game in the Carpathian Mountains. After HITMAN 2 ended on a huge revelation it’ll be interesting to see if this new iteration wraps up a bit more neatly…

HITMAN 3 will be available on 20 January 2021 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Google Stadia and PC. HITMAN 3 will also be coming to Nintendo Switch, playable via cloud streaming technology.

Trailer Reveals HITMAN 3 VR Gameplay

I have to admit I didn’t foresee HITMAN supporting VR, but the new gameplay trailer from IO Interactive reveals exactly that.

The trailer – check it out here – makes it look great, which has me curious as to how it’ll play on PS VR. Situational awareness has always been key for Hitman, so restricting your view would up the challenge significantly.

HITMAN 3 arrives January 20th on PS4 and PS5, Xbox One and the Xbox Series consoles, Google Stadia, and PC. The game will also arrive on Nintendo Switch, playable using cloud streaming tech.

If you’re interested, HITMAN and HITMAN 2 are both on sale on assorted platforms and the games will import into HITMAN 3 so it’s a great time to jump into the whole franchise.

New HITMAN 3 Location Revealed

HITMAN 3 arrives January 20th, 2021.

Agent 47 will be returning to China in the upcoming HITMAN 3, taking to the streets of Chongqing – a southwestern Chinese megacity with a population of over 31 million.

Presumably a few less after he arrives.

Whatever the body count turns out to be, at least those neon-lit environments are going to look good thanks to the Glacier engine – especially on next-gen (is that current-gen now?) machines, which will get 4K resolution at 60 fps and HDR support.

You’ll also be able to visit past locations from the franchise, with the ability to import locations from previous games in the trilogy – giving you a total of 20+ environments all in one spot.

IO Interactive hasn’t let us down yet, so I’m looking forward to taking a shot at this one when it hits shelves, January 20th, 2021. The game will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series consoles, as well as Stadia and PC. Switch owners can look forward to the game being delivered via cloud streaming technology, much like the recent release of Control: Ultimate Edition.

HITMAN 3 reveals new location – Chongqing, China

IO Interactive’s new ‘Chongqing’ location fully showcases Glacier technology

Chongqing is a new location for HITMAN 3, taking Agent 47 to the rainy, neon-lit streets of a Chinese transportation hub packed full of shops and food stands, all crammed into tight streets – with plenty of secrets off the beaten path. Chongqing is also the destination to showcase improvements and refinements coming to HITMAN 3’s technology.

Powered by IO Interactive’s proprietary Glacier engine, HITMAN 3 will look, sound and play better than ever with improvements to lighting, reflections, animation and AI. Chongqing also features full water effects, with details such as rain drops hitting Agent 47 and his clothes getting wet, all adding to the immersion of experiencing HITMAN 3.

On next-gen consoles, HITMAN 3 will run in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second with HDR support. The latest ‘Under The Hood’ trailer showcases this brand new location with smooth new gameplay moments that show off the refinements to interaction animation and AI, as well as Glacier’s crowd technology that will allow up to 300 NPC’s in a location at once.

HITMAN 3 players can import locations from the previous games in the trilogy and have more than 20+ locations under one roof. All of the improvements to rendering, animation and AI introduced with HITMAN 3 can be enjoyed across all three games, making HITMAN 3 the ultimate place to play the entire World of Assassination trilogy.

HITMAN 3 will be available on 20 January 2021 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Google Stadia and PC. HITMAN 3 will also be coming to Nintendo Switch, playable via cloud streaming technology.

IO Interactive Creating New James Bond Game

It’s not often that a developer lines up so well with an IP that literally everyone calls for them to get a shot at it, but IO Interactive – developers of the Hitman franchise – creating a new James Bond game dovetails perfectly.

That’s what makes today’s announcement that IO will be bringing the first-ever James Bond origin story to gaming so special. The gameplay in their past titles has meshed so well with what a great Bond game would be that it just seems – to quote Thanos – inevitable.

As an origin story, I would think this will be more stealth-heavy than past Bond games – after all, you have to earn the 00 status to have the license to kill, but we’ll have to see how they approach it.

The game is also self-published, according to the press release, which offers IO Interactive a level of freedom they’ve not seen before. I don’t know what MGM and EON are like to deal with on the licensing side of things, but hopefully they won’t shackle IO’s hands with too many restrictions on what they can do with the game.

Expect to hear a whole lot more on this game soon.
