The Waylanders, a party-based roleplaying game (RPG) from Spanish indie developers Gato Studio, has just released a new update with sweeping changes to combat systems and a rebalancing of equipment stats.
The game had my attention as soon as it was announced it would have five base classes and 30 advanced classes, and the continued improvements to the game – currently available as part of the Steam Early Access and GOG Games in Development programs – are keeping that interest.
The latest update, dubbed the ‘Community Update’ because it pulls heavily from feedback and bug reports made by players, sees the dev team review every encounter in Act 1 of the game based on that feedback. But while balance changes will make battles more challenging, they’ve also revamped the full equipment list in an across-the-board change that drops max level from 25 to 10.
If that sounds like a nerf, it’s anything but as equipment keeps the same range spread, so every level is now a much more sizable boost. They’ve also changed the stat names from Intuition and Logic to the more easily understood Offensive, for those affecting damage of attacks and abilities, or Utility, for those that affect healing and damage over time.
Having trouble understanding how some abilities work? There’s been additional information added on that front as well, to help players make the best use of each action.
All that, plus over 150 bugs fixed? If you haven’t checked out The Waylanders yet, maybe it’s time. It’s on sale for 15% off on Steam until January 5th.
Following up on the recent release of Xbox One X and Xbox Series X (via backwards compatibility) gameplay footage of Cyberpunk 2077, the hotly-anticipated open-world action-adventure/roleplaying title from CD Projekt Red, now we have footage from the PS4 Pro and PS5 (again in compatibility mode) to take a look at.

Cyberpunk 2077 is slated to release on December 10th, 2020 on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Stadia. While it will be playable on Xbox Series S|X and PS5 via backwards compatibility, CD Projekt Red has promised a free upgrade to a full next-gen version will be available at a later date.
Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed a couple times, but that’s done nothing to kill off interest in the CD Projekt Red roleplaying game currently slated for release December 10th. If you’re the one gamer who isn’t pumped to jump into the dark world of Night City, check out this gameplay trailer that highlights five minutes of insane graphics, action, customization, and much, much more.
Cyberpunk 2077 will hit shelves on December 10th, 2020, for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Stadia. If you’ve managed to score an Xbox Series S|X or PS5 the game will be playable via backwards compatibility and at some point in the new year a free upgrade a next-gen version will become available.
Baldur’s Gate 3 hit Early Access today, letting gamers get their hands on Larian Studios take on the classic franchise for the first time.
The early access release is available on PC and Mac via Steam and GOG.com, and is also out on Google’s Stadia platform – yes, that’s still a thing.
The Early Access version of the game currently features only the first act of the game, but keep in mind that’s still about 25 hours of content and over 40,000 lines of dialogue.
As a massive fan of both the original Baldur’s Gate games and past Larian Studios titles, most recently Divinity: Original Sin II, I’m looking forward to spending a ton of time in their take on the franchise.

Audience interaction is a major part of the Twitch experience, and though that’s usually limited to interacting with the streamer Larian Studios is looking to augment that in a major way with Baldur’s Gate 3.
The game, which is slated to hit early access on September 30th, will allow streamers to give the audience the ability to decide what should happen next during conversations. The streamer, if they enable the option for audience interaction, will be presented with chat’s voting results in real-time and can then choose to heed their wishes – or not, if you want to risk the audience’s wrath…
Audience interaction isn’t only limited to the chat, however, as viewers will also be able to see the player’s inventory, skills, and spells – allowing them to see how you’ve built your characters and offer constructive criticism in the chat.
I’m really excited to see Baldur’s Gate 3 hit early access, both as a fan of the classic Baldur’s Gate games and of Larian’s Divinity series. Expect to hear more when it hits launch!

Baldur’s Gate 3 Introduces Crowd Choice on Stadia & Twitch Integration on PC
Larian Studios reveals Baldur’s Gate 3’s launch key art & new video on multiplayer cinematics
DUBLIN — Sept. 10, 2020 — Larian Studio’s newest Baldur’s Gate 3 Community Update video, released today, breaks down the game’s cinematic ambitions for early access, which begins on September 30. It also introduces more interactivity through Stadia Crowd Choice and Twitch integration. A huge leap from Divinity: Original Sin’s rock-paper-scissors multiplayer interactions, Baldur’s Gate 3 features 1.5 million words, with fully cinematic dialogues.
Using a mix of performance capture and bespoke adaptive cameras, the game is able to react to whoever you are and whatever you do, both in multiplayer and single-player. With the addition of streaming integration, even viewers who may not own the game now have a say in the player’s journey.
Larian’s Cinematic Director, Jason Latino, explains, “You’re telling your story, and we’re shooting it for you. We’re taking that camera down from being above the players and down into the drama, right into the action.
“I can’t think of another early access game that’s done cinematics on this level,” he added. “There’s a lot of games where the moment you add cinematics, they have to get smaller. We didn’t want to do that.”
Community Update #6 – Multiplayer & Cinematics goes into detail about how Larian is combining a cinematic, player-driven narrative through early access, with multiplayer interactions both within and outside of the game session. It shows how far the team has come since Divinity: Original Sin, back in 2014.
When enabled by a streamer, Crowd Choice brings the journey to YouTube viewers, where Stadia viewers can vote. The streamer is seamlessly presented with the results in percentages, and can then choose to follow the players, or go their own way.
Twitch integration works by numbering each dialogue option, which corresponds to viewer choices. This feedback is seamlessly integrated into the game, where both streamer and viewer will see each percentage vote next to each dialogue option. What’s more, players will be able to interact with the Twitch overlay to access the player’s inventory, character sheet, skills, and spells.
Both of these features are launching day one of early access, respectively, on PC and Stadia. This not only brings the community closer to the player, but also, due to the amount of permutations in dialogues, enables streamers to “DM” their own adventure for viewers, letting viewers partake in the story regardless of whether they own the game. Players will be able to become a part of their favorite streamer’s own private canon. Or, as a streamer or viewer, hide the feature entirely. It’s up to them. As always, the game reacts appropriately.
Early access is rapidly approaching, and Larian is happy to launch with nearly everything needed to give players a sense of the ambition behind Baldur’s Gate 3. Dialogues have more permutations than ever before, and so too does the game. Not only does the game retain the narration previous Larian titles are so well known for, you’ll often see that action on screen — whether it’s a vampiric bite in the night, or a slip of the tongue on a goblin’s foot. Of course, there are many more for players to discover on their own.
Whether in solo, with friends — or streaming with an audience — no matter how you choose to experience Baldur’s Gate 3, the tools and systems that allow the game to adapt to the story forged by players are ready for early access on September 30.
Warcave is a Belgian game development studio, which no doubt helped shape the background lore of their new turn-based RPG, Black Legend, which features creatures from the folklore of Belgium, Greece, and Germany.
Exploring the city of Grant isn’t going to be easy, given that it’s shrouded with a ‘deadly fog that inflicts madness’ and all…but the promise of turn-based tactical combat is enough to prompt me to give it a shot when it hits PC and both current- and next-gen consoles in 2021.
I’m a sucker for character customization and the idea of creating my own character ability sets using cross-class abilities sounds pretty intriguing. I could turn out a supremely powerful character, or someone that’s a glass cannon who needs everything to go just perfectly to survive…who knows which it’ll be?

Phil Spencer has been working on expanding the Xbox One’s library of titles to include more Japanese studios and it’s hard to argue with his results – the latest addition being Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age, which arrives on Game Pass later this year.
The game, also releasing on PS4 and PC, features a slew of new content over the original PS4 release, including new side stories and a 2D mode that should be totally familiar to older gamers, and I’m definitely one of those. My first experience with this franchise was on NES, when it was called Dragon Warrior over here in North America.

The existence of the Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning remaster was leaked a while back, but that just makes the official news that it’ll hit this September, with the title tweaked to ‘Re-Reckoning’, all the sweeter.
Amalur was an underappreciated gem in the Xbox 360/PS3 era, the launch of an RPG franchise with big plans that was ultimately submarined by utterly clueless management. Fortunately for RPG fans, THQ Nordic swept up the license and not only will they be releasing the remaster, but there’s an all-new expansion slated for 2021 as well!

Gato Salvaje Studio surprised a lot of gamers with The Waylanders, an ambitious Early Access title on Steam that needs some work to polish it up, but is already worth your investment of both money and time.
They’re not resting on their laurels though, and they’ve released a roadmap – view the full res image here – that’s aggressive in its promises – a bi-weekly content update schedule that includes story additions, character additions, quests, features, and bug fixes aplenty.
I’ve enjoyed my time with the game so far, and I’ve barely scraped the surface of the class system that first attracted me to it. If the studio can stick to this development schedule, expect to hear a lot more about The Waylanders in the future.

New Early Access The Waylanders Roadmap Shares Plans For Story, Companions, and More
A Coruña, Spain – June 29, 2020 – After a successful launch on Steam Early Access, Gato Salvaje Studio has released a roadmap with details on updates coming to their Celtic RPG, The Waylanders.
As shown in this new roadmap, The Waylanders team has committed to a biweekly cadence of content and gameplay improvement updates for the Early Access title. Of the revealed updates, focus will be on added content such as added quests, early companion loyalty missions, and lore. Each content release will be followed by an update tackling in-game improvements such as missing cinematics, bug fixes, and gameplay adjustments.
The Waylanders team is targeting an Early Access exit for the game in early 2021. More details on Early Access content updates will be revealed later this summer.
