Major Changes For Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Esports Program Announced

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six esports program continues to evolve and grow, with major changes announced at the Six Invitational 2020 that include the creation of a Canada Division as part of the North America region, one of four – including Asia-Pacific, Europe, and Latin America – that will be part of the new competitive structure.
Going forward the four regional programs will run parallel seasons of four quarters, with the first three – called Stages – each concluding with a Major, where the top four teams from each region will gather to compete. The fourth quarter will be used for regional finals, relegation, and the annual Six Invitational that crown’s the world’s best team.
Here’s the press release:

UBISOFT® UNVEILS MAJOR CHANGES COMING TO THE TOM CLANCY’S RAINBOW SIX® ESPORTS PROGRAM FOR 2020 AND BEYOND

The next Pro League champions will be crowned at the Season XI Finals in São Paulo, Brazil, on May 16-17

Montreal, CANADA — February 16, 2020 — Today at the Six Invitational 2020, Ubisoft® revealed a major update of the Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six® Siege esports program for 2020 and beyond. Following the next Rainbow Six Pro League Finals that will conclude Season XI on May 16-17, in the Grand Auditorium, Anhembi in beautiful São Paulo, Brazil, the Rainbow Six esports scene will evolve towards a regionalized program.

While fitting into a coherent global frame, the 4 existing regions – Europe, North America, Latin America and Asia-Pacific – will decide on the specifics of their regional program, whether it is their partners, their formats or the way the regional program fuels the global program. Building upon what was created over the past 4 years of Rainbow Six esports with Pro League and national tournaments, regionalizing our program is the natural next step for Ubisoft to enhance the specificities and successes of each region. It will allow for a stronger focus on local specificities and an increased diversity in the different choices of programs Ubisoft offers. All of this will feed into one exciting global race towards a qualification for the Six Invitational, the pinnacle of the Rainbow Six competitive year.

The program changes will result in:

  • 4 regional programs running in parallel during the year. A competitive year of Rainbow Six esports, known as a “Season”, will be divided into 4 quarters. The first 3 quarters will be known as “Stages”, each concluding with a Major, where the 4 best teams from each region at the end of a given stage, will gather to compete. The 4th quarter will be dedicated to regional finals and relegations, leading towards the Six Invitational that will crown the world’s best team at the end of the Season.
  • Teams involved in the regional programs will be ranked based on a new and in-depth point system that rewards sustained performance.
  • Performance in the regional programs and Majors will impact the global rankings and the teams’ journey towards the Six Invitational.

ASIA-PACIFIC

The Asia-Pacific region will include two divisions. In the North Division, the Japanese, Korean, and Southeast Asian programs will come together to form a single, highly competitive, online league gathering 12 teams. In parallel, the South Division will provide exciting new opportunities to the established Oceanic market along with up-and-coming regions such as South Asia. Ubisoft will commission ESLto handle the Asia-Pacific programs and events.

EUROPE

The European League will expand to ten teams and build upon what was created over the past years. The European national programs will receive greater significance and will feed into the global program, thus forging a multi-tiered esports scene, allowing players from all levels and horizons to compete. FaceIt and LiveNation will be Ubisoft’s co-production partners for the European League and events.

LATIN AMERICA

Latin America will grow from eight to ten teams in Brazil and move to an offline structure in Mexico while expanding into South America (Argentina, Peru, Chile, Uruguay). Latin America will now support three divisions (Brazil, Mexico and South America) with the intent of continuing to evolve into global competitors. The Latin American program will be owned and operated by Ubisoft and its contracted vendors in the region.

NORTH AMERICA

North America will level up the production and tournament operations across the board while continuing to champion players and community. Next year will see the introduction of the US Division, a new program with premier production and play dates. For the first time, Canada will have a place within the global competition stage with the Canada Division.

The Six Invitational 2020 also revealed the regions that will host Majors in the next 2 years:

2020

  • May 16-17, Pro League Finals Season XI: São Paulo, Brazil
  • August Major: North America
  • November Major: Europe

2021

  • February, Six Invitational 2021: Canada
  • May Major: Europe
  • August Major: North America
  • November Major: Asia-Pacific

'Warlords of New York' Expansion Hits 'The Division 2' in March

Continuing Ubisoft’s trend of strong post-launch support of their titles, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 will be receiving a sizable expansion ‘Warlords of New York’ on March 3rd. The downloadable content (DLC) adds a new storyline, tasking players with tracking down a former Agent now gone rogue, Aaron Keener.
If Keener’s skills weren’t enough, there’s also the environment working against you, as he’s based in lower Manhattan, a former Dark Zone that was recently hit hard by a hurricane, and his cadre of Rogue Agents who will have to be eliminated one by one to work your way through to Keener.
A prologue for the DLC is available with Episode 3 – Coney Island: The Hunt, available February 12 if you own the Year 1 pass, and February 19th for all players.
Here’s the press release:

Tom Clancy’s The Division® 2 Warlords of New York Taking Agents on the Ultimate Manhunt Starting March 3

  • The Division 2’s narrative-driven expansion will bring players to a new devastated open world in South Manhattan.
  • Starting tomorrow, players can experience the prologue with Episode 3 – Coney Island: The Hunt, available free on February 12 for Year 1 pass holders, February 19 for all The Division 2 players.

Montreal — February 11, 2020 — Today, Ubisoft announced Tom Clancy’s® The Division 2 Warlords of New York, a narrative-driven expansion in The Division 2, available on March 3, 2020 on the Xbox One family of devices including the Xbox One X, PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, Windows PC and UPLAY+*, Ubisoft’s subscription service. Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 and its expansion will also launch on the new generation gaming platform, Stadia, later in March.

While current The Division 2 players can purchase the expansion on its own, new players can purchase the Standard Edition, which includes The Division 2 base game and The Division 2 Warlords of New York expansion. The Ultimate Edition, which gives players both the game and its expansion, as well as all of The Division 2’s Year 1 content, classified assignments and unlocked specializations, will also be available. All players must be at Level 30 and have reached World Tier 5 to join The Division 2 Warlords of New York. As such, each edition of the game will come with a Level 30 boost that players can activate if they wish to do so, to immediately jump into the New York expansion. After completing The Division 2 Warlords of New York campaign, Agents can then fast travel freely between Washington DC and New York City to enjoy the entire range of The Division 2’s content.

All players pre-purchasing** the expansion will be granted a free Level 30 boost that they can use at their discretion to jump their character to Level 30 in The Division 2, ahead of the expansion’s release.

A Narrative Expansion to Discover a New Area in New York City

In Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 Warlords of New York, Division Agents will go on the ultimate manhunt for Aaron Keener, a former Division Agent who has now gone rogue. Keener, along with his network of Rogue Agents, is now a major threat to the burgeoning rebirth of civilization. To track down Keener, Agents will roam the untamed living open world of Lower Manhattan; a former Dark Zone that was recently hit by a devastating hurricane that hit New York City harder than anywhere else in the US. Agents are tasked to explore new zones, each with iconic locations such as Two Bridges, Chinatown, and Wall Street. To get to Keener, players must take down each of his Rogue Agents.  Each Rogue Agent has their own unique back story and skill – which you gain once you take them down.

The Ultimate Vision of Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 Warlords of New York

After taking the time to hear and gather community feedback, core gameplay enhancements have been implemented across various topics such as build diversity, gear streamlining and even more meaningful loot.

Along with The Division 2 Warlords of New York, Title Update 8 will include an RPG overhaul, allowing players to better read and manage their gear inventory. The UI screen will be updated to always show the roll ranges for each stat on a piece of gear or weapon. The overhaul also includes the return of god rolls, improving readability and helping players make better decisions on the gear’s usefulness to their build. Additionally, players will see a more streamlined gear recalibration system, with item and stat usefulness indicators, as well as permanent attribute and stat storage at the recalibration station. This will allow Agents the flexibility to plan the perfect build.

The existing Dark Zones in The Division 2 are also being revitalized, returning to a simpler rogue mechanic. The focus is on rewarding player-to-player interaction, whether its fighting against each other or helping a fellow Agent against a tough Rogue player.

In The Division 2 Warlords of New York, the players’ level cap will increase from Level 30 to Level 40, but it doesn’t stop there. The Division 2 Warlords of New York is also introducing an infinite progression system, the SHD level, and 4 new skills that can be used throughout the game. Owners of the expansion will also get access to new gear and new weapons.

Introducing Seasons, including Leagues and the Return of Global Events

The expansion will also introduce a new post-launch philosophy: Seasons – a 3-month-long themed endgame event with a new main target and his network to track down, introducing them at a regular pace, each with their own stories and unique rewards. The first season begins one week after the release of The Division 2 Warlords of New York. In addition to the Seasonal Manhunt, Seasons will offer new in-game activities.  Leagues are a series of challenges for players with opportunities to unlock rewards based on players’ ability to complete such challenges.  Players will also see the return of Global Events, time-limited in game events during which a global modifier is applied to the entire game and players will be rewarded by completing specific tasks. During each Season, players will grow their Season level to unlock various rewards by participating in the various seasonal activities or even simply playing the game. Players interested in collecting additional rewards can acquire a Season Pass. Take On The Terminator in Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint

It seems like just yesterday when the Predator invaded Ghost Recon Wildlands, and now another famous movie villain is going after the gamers in a Tom Clancy game. This time around it’s Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint, and the villain is none other than the Terminator.
The free event kicks off January 29th and features “multiple mission settings, enemies, and dialogues” that were inspired by the 1984 classic robot vs. humanity flick. Gamers can take it on solo, but you’re going to have a lot more fun if you go after the Terminator with friends.
The pair of narrative missions will be sticking around once the event wraps up, February 6th, so don’t worry if you can’t get online in the next week to take part.
Here’s the press release:

Montreal — January 28, 2019 — Today, Ubisoft announced a partnership with Studiocanal that will bring the Terminator to Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon® Breakpoint with the release of a free event featuring multiple mission settings, enemies and dialogues inspired from the original 1984 The Terminator movie. Two main narrative missions will be introduced, during which players will have to rescue and partner with Rasa Aldwin, a woman coming from the future, in the hope of stopping the Terminators’ plans. These two missions will be available starting January 29 and February 1, respectively, and will remain in-game once the event ends. In addition, players will be able to face the challenging T-800 cyborgs in daily warfare and interception missions.

Upon completing missions during the live event, January 29 to February 6, players will be rewarded with exclusive items inspired by The Terminator, including the movie’s iconic punk outfit, as well as exclusive new Terminator weapons and vehicles. Besides the rewards granted by completing the event’s missions, players will be able to further customize their Ghosts with two Terminator-inspired packs, allowing players to fully transform into the Terminator or Kyle Reese in-game.

'Tom Clancy's The Division 2' Title Update 6.1 Releases December 10th

Just in time for the holiday season, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 is getting Title Update 6.1 which brings with it an in-game Christmas event called Situation: Snowball. Take down enemies wearing bright red Santa hats to get an exclusive new snowball gun, plus if you log in between December 10th and January 7th, you’ll get a Santa hat of your own.
Want more? How about the Silent Night Apparel Cache, with 35 new apparel items to collect. Log in during that same 10th-7th window and you’ll get a free key to open a cache. If you’re a Year One Pass holder, you’ll get another three keys to use before the event ends.
In non-holiday items, there’s a beta for the Hardcore Mode that players have been asking about for ages. This mode isn’t for everyone, with permadeath of your character bringing the ultimate penalty for failure, but it would be the pinnacle of bragging rights.
I’m not sure I’ll give that a shot, as I often play late at night before heading to bed and drowsy Rod plus Hardcore Mode would equal disaster.

The Theme Park map has also been reworked considerably, and there are other tweaks like a limb penetration system to be tested on the Test Servers, which are now live.
Here’s the press release:

TOM CLANCY’S RAINBOW SIX® SIEGE REVEALS OPERATION SHIFTING TIDES

Discover the Operators Kali and Wamai, and a reworked version of the map Theme Park

Montreal — November 11, 2019 — Yesterday, at the Pro League Finals Tokoname, Ubisoft announced the full details of the fourth, and last season, of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six® Siege Year 4. Wamai can make Attackers’ grenades and projectile gadgets useless, or better, turn them against their users.
In addition to these two new Operators, players will be able to explore a reimagined Theme Park map, which is back and newly reworked. The Rail Platform has been removed and the East and West sections have been brought closer together. Inside the building, the East section has largely evolved, primarily the downstairs area. Gargoyle and Haunting Dining bomb sites are replaced with the Throne Room and Armory pair. The new Gong Room in this area also becomes the main entrance, while the Arcade Entrance is now blocked.
Additional updates include the following:

  • Limb penetration system has been implemented
  • Rappel exist will request a prompt from player to enter rappel
  • Operators price decrease (Hibana, Echo, Dokkaebi, Vigil, Zofia, Nomad and Kaid)

The Test Server for Operation Shifting Tides is going live on November 11. The Test Server is an alternative version of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, allowing players to test upcoming gameplay features that will make their way into the main game itself. Since this is a testing environment, a consistent gameplay experience is not guaranteed on the Test Server. Players are invited to submit the issues they encounter on the Test Server on the R6 Fix platform [link: here]. The Test Server is exclusive to Windows PC.

'Doktor's Curse' Limited Time Event Hits Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege players can get into the Halloween spirit with a limited time event ‘Doktor’s Curse’ which adds an all-new game mode set on a reworked version of the ‘Theme Park’ map.
The event begins today and runs through until November 6th, and gives players a 5-on-5 Monster Hunt mode where one team, consisting of five Sledges using hammers and a selection of gadgets, takes on the Monster team – comprised of Lesion, Frost, Kapkan, Smoke, and Ela.
The Monster team doesn’t have access to weapons, and must rely on traps and temporary invisibility plus a speed boost to avoid and escape the hunters long enough to survive the round.
With 28 items up for grabs, there’s plenty of incentive for lapsed players to jump back into the game.
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

TOM CLANCY’S RAINBOW SIX® SIEGE ANNOUNCES LIMITED TIME EVENT: DOKTOR’S CURSE

Discover Doc’s terrible experiments in an all-new Monster Hunter game mode

Montreal – October 23, 2019 – Today, Ubisoft® announced the frightful, limited-time event for Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six® Siege Year 4, Doktor’s Curse. This event brings an all-new game mode in a spooky, reworked, Frankenstein version of the map “Theme Park,” taken over by Doc, where he performs his disturbing, evil experiments.
This year’s Halloween event will last two weeks, beginning today, October 23rd and ending on Wednesday, November 6th. In this exciting 5-vs.-5 Monster Hunt mode, players will have to choose between fighting or embracing the darkness. Exterminators: 5 Sledges wielding only 3 unique hammers as weapons and a selection of gadgets — Eyenox Model III (Jackal), Heartbeat sensor (Pulse) and the EE-ONE-D (Lion) — will face five Monsters: a cast composed of Lesion, Frost, Kapkan, Smoke, and Ela. The Monsters have no weapons but can use traps and have a unique ability created for this mode: they can turn momentarily invisible and run faster to escape. The Monster Hunters’ (Attackers) goal is to kill all monsters, while the Monsters (Defenders) try to survive the round.
The Doktor’s Curse Collection will introduce brand new skins for five operators. Smoke, Kapkan, Frost, Lesion, and Ela each get their own set of four items, as well as Doc and Bandit, for a total of 28 items. Additionally, classic 2018 Halloween skins are once again available for a limited time.
The “Doktor’s Curse” Event includes the new Ubisoft Club Challenge that allows players to earn one of the 28 packs if they achieve 20 kills while playing the Doktor’s Curse map, and a second pack if they manage to win 13 rounds in the Doktor’s Curse playlist. In addition, any players that log-in between October 23rd and November 6th will receive one free pack. Players can also purchase the Doktor’s Curse pack for 300 R6 Credits or 12 500 Renown, with a 10% discount for Y4 Pass owners.

Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 already features a huge array of content, but that’ll grow significantly October 15th with the arrival of Episode 2 – Pentagon: The Last Castle.
The update – the largest title update for the game so far – includes a slew of new things to do, including new main missions, two new classified assignments, a new PVP mode, a new specialization, and a wide variety of gameplay improvements and additions.
Sounds like there’s no better time to return to the game and knock the rust off your guns before the October 15th release!

Here’s the press release:

Tom Clancy’s The Division® 2: “Episode 2 – Pentagon: The Last Castle” will Release on October 15

Biggest Title Update to Date Includes New Main Missions, Latest Specialization, Major Fixes and Improvements, New PvP Mode and More

Montreal — October 9, 2019 — Ubisoft announced October 15 as the release date for its latest content update for the live open world game Tom Clancy’s The Division® 2. In addition, later this month, players who did not have a chance to play The Division 2 yet will have the opportunity to try the game for free.**
Title Update 6 highlights The Division 2’s biggest title update to date for players, featuring “Episode 2 – Pentagon: The Last Castle,” a variety of game improvements and a new Conflict PvP mode. Episode 2 is available for Year 1 pass holders and UPLAY+* subscribers on October 15 (October 22 for all players). All changes and improvements, as well as the new mode, are available for all players on October 15.

The latest episode in The Division 2’s Year 1 free content plan features escalation in Washington D.C. for Division Agents, as Black Tusk forces continue to wreak havoc around the city. In Episode 2, players must fight to solve the ongoing outbreak crisis. It will be up to Agents to uncover the secrets inside the Pentagon before it falls into the hands of The Black Tusk.
Content featured in “Episode 2 – Pentagon: The Last Castle” includes:
Two New Main Missions
At the beginning of Episode 2, players will investigate a transmission from a fellow Agent scouting the Pentagon for the perfusion bioreactor. Securing the bioreactor would allow Agents to replicate the antiviral samples recovered at Tidal Basin. Agents must navigate flood damage and Black Tusk forces to take back The Last Castle. After securing their safe house, players will be able to access the two replayable main missions of Episode 2
  • First Main Mission – Pentagon: Agents will discover the location of the perfusion bioreactor inside the Pentagon’s underground research facility. The Black Tusk have already infiltrated the lab and are attempting to extract the reactor.
  • Second Main Mission – DARPA Research Labs: Players must make their way through the Pentagon and into the DARPA Labs, as the Black Tusk are in the process of transporting the perfusion bioreactor through an abandoned Cold War tunnel network.
New “Technician” Specialization: Effective October 15, Year 1 pass holders and UPLAY+ subscribers will instantly unlock the Technician Specialization. Players who do not own the Year 1 pass can unlock the specialization by completing a series of objectives. Additional rewards, including a signature weapon skin, are also available once the specialization is unlocked. The latest specialization includes:
  • Signature Weapon: P-017 Launcher – a multi-missile launcher. Agents can lock-on and hit up to six enemies (depending on available ammo). With a simple push of a button, six missiles are unleashed to seek out their targets.
  • Sidearm: Maxim 9
  • Skill Variant: Artificer Hive
  • Grenade Mod: EMP Grenade
Classified Assignments (Exclusive only to Year 1 Pass holders and UPLAY+ subscribers): Agents can take on two new Classified Assignments at a Boathouse and Embassy.
  • Marina: Outcasts have been moving weapons and supplies into a boathouse on the Potomac River, which was used as a transport depot during the outbreak to move assets to the Potomac Center and Roosevelt Island. Agents must investigate and seize all the weapons they can find.
  • Embassy: A Joint Task Force helicopter filled with supplies was shot down by the Outcasts and crashed through the roof of the Mexican Embassy in Washington D.C. Agents will be tasked to locate the helicopter rescue the pilot and secure the supplies before the Outcasts get there.
The latest title update also brings an unprecedented number of fixes and improvements, as well as a brand new PvP mode.

Major Fixes and Improvements
Players will see significant game improvements in The Division 2 effective October 15. These improvements were developed thanks to community feedback on game forums and following last month’s Elite Task Force workshop, during which community members visited Ubisoft Massive studio in Malmö, Sweden to share thoughts and ideas about the game. Fixes and improvements include:

  • Targeted Loot
  • Named Items overhauled
  • Crafting Changes
  • Recalibration Changes
  • Filled Brands
  • Inventory Management 2.0
  • Increased stash space
  • Rebalance of talents and weapons
  • Dark Zone Server Transfers
  • Updated Thieves’ Den Vendor
  • Dark Zone Supply Drops Changes
  • Occupied Dark Zone Ambushes
  • Normalization in Dark Zone changes
  • Conflict: Loadout Selection during map voting
  • Bonus armor visualization increased
  • Conflict: End of Match Rewards changes
  • Stored tutorials
As part of Ubisoft’s commitment to the overall fixes and improvements to the game, The Division 2’s second raid will be delayed. The additional time allows the development team to focus on the overall quality of The Division 2, while developing a raid that will better meet the standards of its players.

New Conflict PvP Mode
The new Team Elimination PvP mode pits two teams of four into a best-of-seven round battle in D.C. Rounds will end once an entire team has been eliminated or time has expired. Team Elimination provides a teamwork focused tactical experience for players. Team Elimination takes effect on October 15.
New map: The “Wharf”
The new map ‘Wharf’ is on par with previous PvP maps in terms of size and takes players to an abandoned fishing harbor. It offers tactical gameplay opportunities, through flanking routes and raised positions.

Later this month, players who did not have a chance to play The Division 2 yet will have the opportunity to try the game for free.** In addition Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 will be on sale, allowing players to continue the adventure at a discounted price. Review – Tom Clancy's The Division 2

Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 has players grinding their way to higher and higher equipment power levels in a ridiculously chaotic version of Washington, DC, and it’s a loot treadmill that I don’t want to get off anytime soon.

Washington is a city still reeling from the effects of the plague unleashed prior to the events of the first game, though if I’m being completely honest the storyline here didn’t grab me anywhere near as much as the original’s did. The problem – if it really can be called that – is that there’s just so much to do in the world that keeps distracting you away from a focused narrative experience.

Going from a story mission to the open world where I could spend an hour or more preventing public executions, stopping propaganda broadcasts, exploring underground bases, and flipping control points back to the ‘good’ guys before hitting up the next storyline mission, it proved very hard to remember who I was supposed to be after.

Fortunately, The Division 2 isn’t really aimed at being a narrative masterpiece – it’s the loot and the battles that you’re here for, and you’ll get both in spades. Missions follow much the same progression as the first game: select the one you want to do, travel to it – fighting random battles along the way, go through the mission – generally a series of battles leading to a final climactic showcase battle against a leader, and then collect your loot.

Each mission offers set rewards, plus there are generous drops from enemies and the open world holds a frankly ridiculous number of loot-containing boxes/backpacks/crates to open, and going through missions with friends it’s pretty common to have ‘loot breaks’ that consist of everyone rummaging through their backpack to see if they’ve gotten anything new and shinier. Loot is individual, so you don’t have to worry about being greedy about picking things up, and you can share something you don’t need with people who were in the group when it dropped.

Adding to all that is the lure of the Dark Zone and the top-tier loot it contains, if you can survive both the AI and human enemies that inhabit it. I was a huge fan of the Dark Zone PVEvP (if that’s even a real acronym) in the first game and that love continues here. As of right now there are no really overpowered builds steamrolling through the Dark Zone, and that helps make things feel fairer and more fun. Still, if you’re heading into the zone you’ll want to bring a friend, preferably three.

Like with our Anthem review, it’s too early to say how The Division 2 will hold up long-term – and this is another Games as a Service title that’s promised a ton of updates over the next year – but it’s a very solid foundation that builds on what the original brought to the table so it’s easy to recommend to existing fans. Your character handles smoothly in and out of battle, and the combat system has enough skill and gear varieties to lend itself to pretty much any playstyle you want.
