Vampire Action-RPG 'Vampyr' Out Now on Nintendo Switch

I was a big fan of DONTNOD’s vampiric RPG back when it released on Xbox One so Nintendo Switch owners should be happy to see this hit shelves just before Halloween. As the newly-turned Dr. Reid, gamers will have to decide just how much of a monster they want to be…
If you’ve got a Switch and love a good narrative alongside your action-RPGs, give this one a shot.
Here’s the press release:

About Vampyr
Prowl the disease ridden streets in Vampyr – a darkly atmospheric action RPG from the studio behind ‘Remember Me’ and ‘Life is Strange’. Set in early 20th century Britain during a bout of the lethal Spanish flu, the streets of London are crippled by disease, violence and fear. In a completely disorganized and ghostly city, those who are either fools, desperate, or unlucky enough to walk the streets lay prey to Britain’s most elusive predators: the Vampires.
Emerging from the chaos, a tormented figure awakes; as the player it is you who determines how to harness your new powers, by specializing in deadly, versatile RPG skill-trees that change the way you play. As a doctor recently turned into a Vampire, you try to understand your new affliction.
Your quest of intuition, discoveries and struggles, will be filled with death and drama, while your attempt to stem the irrepressible thirst that constantly drives you to take human lives. As you cling to what remains of your humanity, your decisions will ultimately shape the fate of your hero while searching for answers in the coughing, foggy aftermath of the Spanish Flu.

Vampyr Comes to Switch in October

I quite liked Vampyr when it hit PC, PS4, and Xbox One, calling it a “surprise delight” so I was happy to hear it’ll be moving to Switch at the end of October – just in time for Halloween.
If you’re a Switch-only gamer and haven’t had the chance to check the game out, be sure to keep an eye on this one. The story is quite good and there’s a lot of player agency in how things play out, so there’s not a lot like it on the Switch.
Here’s the press release and trailer:

Review – Vampyr

Vampyr is a surprise delight. The action-RPG set in post World War I London, where you play as a recently-turned vampire – formerly Dr. Jonathan Reid – looking for answers and maybe a little revenge, provides a strong story and engaging combat mixed with a morals-testing leveling up system like none you’ve seen before.
As a vampire, players become more powerful by ingesting blood, but as Dr. Reid your goal is to save as many citizens as you can in a city ravaged by the Spanish flu and a series of unexplained murders blamed on a local myth. Feed on citizens to unlock skills faster, or try to keep as many alive as possible – even though that’ll make the game harder to beat?
There’s another twist though – the health of the region itself. Kill too many citizens in a district and it will fall into chaos, with all the ordinary people killed and monsters roaming the streets. Citizens might be a source of blood, but they’re also a source of information – albeit mainly about other citizens. Engaging in conversations and exploring the environment nets valuable intel on other non-playable characters (NPCs), which is vital in finishing both primary and side quests.
The game isn’t all talking and looking around, however, and your vampiric combat abilities will be put to the test multiple times in the game’s 15-20 hour span. Unlockable abilities that prove overpowering at first, especially the blood mist explosion, can fall by the wayside as the game wears on, so be willing to try new things and experiment with the skill tree. There’s also a wide variety of weapons to find, craft, and upgrade, helping to keep combat fresh.
