Despite the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Larian Studios still expects Baldur’s Gate 3 to hit Early Access in August of this year. Shifting to a work-from-home setup isn’t ideal, but the studio says they’ve pulled it off successfully and are hopeful of hitting their targeted release.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is the sequel to legendary PC RPGs Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate II – which released in 1998 and 2000, respectively – with an all-new development team. Expectations are high, but with Larian Studios being the brains behind the Divinity: Original Sin franchise it seems like the game is in capable hands.

DUBLIN — June 13, 2020 — Larian Studios has announced that Baldur’s Gate 3 is expected to launch into early access this August… maybe. While Baldur’s Gate 3 continues to take shape, today’s new trailer demonstrates the mood and tone of the game, which has pushed Larian’s lauded RPG talent into an entirely new level of depth and ambition.
Announced in June 2019 during the final E3 conference, Baldur’s Gate 3 is a sequel to CRPG legends Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate II, bringing the series into the modern era with AAA production values, including fully cinematic dialogue, cooperative multiplayer, and authentic gameplay based on 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons.
Larian also released a new community update video today hinting at changes that have come to the game since its first showing at PAX East 2020 earlier this year. Fans can find out even more about the game during D&D Live 2020: Roll w/ Advantage, hosted on June 18 at www.DungeonsandDragons.com.

COVID-19 has impacted the Larian team as it has many people around the world, but the shift to work-from-home has gratefully been a successful one, allowing Larian to continue building toward an early access period of (maybe!) August. Larian will have more information about the specific content of early access in the future, but the team is committed to working directly with community feedback to evolve the game during its early access campaign.

I took part in the Xbox One beta for Tower of Time and I’m looking forward to giving the full game a shot, so news that it’ll hit this month is welcome news indeed. The dungeon crawler has a staggered launch, hitting PS4 June 23rd in North America (24th in Europe), the Nintendo Switch on the 25th, and the Xbox One on June 26th.
The action-RPG features dozens of hours of adventuring and building up your characters to take on the 50 boss battles that stand between you and the ending, so RPG fans should absolutely check this one out.

Event Horizon’s story-rich dungeon crawler launches later this month on consoles
4 June, 2020 – Indie publisher Digerati and developer Event Horizon are pleased to confirm the release dates for innovative action-RPG Tower of Time. The epic adventure launches 23/24 June on PS4 (NA/EU respectively), 25 June on Nintendo Switch, and 26 June on Xbox One.
Already a hit with players on PC – it has a 9/10 rating on Steam – the console version of Tower of Time will launch with a revised control scheme developed specifically for gamepads.

I hate to admit it but Spellforce 3 is one of those games I just didn’t have time to jump into back when it launched in 2017 but looking at the trailer for Fallen God, the new standalone expansion that adds an all-new playable faction of trolls, maybe it’s time to give it a shot because this is a hot looking RTS/RPG blend.
The expansion includes an all-new singleplayer campaign that has multiple endings depending on your choices, and the game sports a host of new features for returning players, including weapon salvaging/crafting and character customization for your own character and companions via character shaping – where the decisions you make influence your companion’s skills and abilities.
There’s no release date set for the title yet, aside from a somewhat nebulous ‘2020’ but you can check out the details here on its Steam page.

Red Wings: Aces of the Sky has arrived on the Nintendo Switch, with Story, Survival, and Vintage (available after beating the campaign) game modes for players to mow through. With 50 story-driven campaign missions set in the air above the battlefields of World War II, split across two campaigns that see you fly on both sides of the war, gamers can look forward to blasting a ton of planes out of the sky.
The game reminds me a lot of Crimson Skies, only with a cel-shaded look to it, and I’m all about that. Available now on Nintendo Switch, Red Wings: Aces of the Sky is also slated to come to PC, PS4, and Xbox One in 2020.
Awesome Games newest title is a roguelite platformer where you shoot your way through room after room of enemies, gathering weapons and ink until your eventual death at which point it’s time to upgrade and try again!
For most people that’s enough to get them to try it, but if that’s not you then check out the first 15 minutes of the game. It’s got a lot of charm and the controls are great – I’ll be shooting (and bouncing) for 1,000/1,000 on this one.
If you watch this trailer and don’t get a real strong sense of the excellent Vikings TV show that’s been running since 2013, you probably haven’t seen the TV show – rectify that immediately.
Ubisoft’s newest Assassin’s Creed title, subtitled Valhalla, will be releasing Holiday 2020 on current and next gen consoles, and the setting looks amazing. The game looks to be another in the RPG line that Origins started it down and Odyssey expanded on, with the ability to choose a male or female lead and tons of customization options.
I’m really looking forward to this one, expect to see a lot more on it soon.

The Assassin’s Creed franchise has jumped around a fair bit, visiting key moments in history in places like Italy, France, America, and the Caribbean in past games, and they’ve finally unveiled we’ll be running around in the boots of Vikings in their next game, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla.

If you haven’t played Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, read our review here, now is definitely the time to get on it. It’s a fantastic game and should serve as a great lead-in to Valhalla.
There are a lot of games out there that simulate jobs now, from simulating farm life all the way to being a professional truck driver, but none are quite as far out as Hardspace: Shipbreaker which drops you into the gravity boots of a zero-g spaceship salvage operator.
The development team dropped the first episode of their developer diary series today, along with news the game game will hit Steam Early Access, June 16th.

New developer diary series goes behind the scenes of Focus Home Interactive & Blackbird Interactive’s upcoming zero-g spaceship salvaging sim
PARIS – April 21, 2020 – Blackbird Interactive and Focus Home Interactive have announced that the first-person zero-g spaceship salvaging sim Hardspace: Shipbreaker will enter Steam Early Access on June 16. To celebrate, the team today released the first episode in a new developer diary series diving into the making of this very unique game.
This first episode introduces you to Hardspace: Shipbreaker’s gameplay and universe, where you’ll use cutting-edge tech to carve up massive vessels in outer space to recover valuable loot for the corporation you’re indebted to. Cut up ships however you choose, slicing panels, fuel lines, hull infrastructure and more — with each choice, Hardspace: Shipbreaker responds dynamically to your actions, creating new potentially explosive physics objects to manage.
Although best known as the studio behind Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak and the upcoming Homeworld 3, developer Blackbird Interactive was inspired by the real history of skyscraper construction and rig workers to create a sandbox game with a blue collar atmosphere and true-to-life physics. Blackbird’s recent collaboration with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory on Project Eagle, an interactive demo of how a future Mars base might operate, further fueled the drive to deliver a creative demolition sim that feels playful yet complex and lived in. Hardspace: Shipbreaker will arrive in early access with a variety of exciting features, including the first act of the story campaign, two classes of spaceship to chop up, and multiple upgradeable tools and perks. Throughout early access, the team will release new ships, missions, challenges, leaderboards, modding support and more based on feedback from the community.
You can wishlist Hardspace: Shipbreaker now on Steam. The game is also in development for PlayStation®4 and Xbox One.
When Cyberpunk 2077 hits shelves this fall, Xbox gamers can take in the cyberpunk goodness on a limited edition console. I’m not sure that enhances the experience, but the console does include the game so that gets you at least part of the way and I have to admit that it’s a pretty slick-looking piece of hardware.
